Chapter 3 The Devil's Doubts

I slowly started to feel my eyes starting to close, I tried to fight it but I passed out. I woke up upside down and guards screaming, so I got up as fast as I could. The bird was mad at me that it tried it's hards to hit me in the face with her wings. I asked one of the guards how long will it take to get there. He said about 5 days without stopping, or without any storms. I asked if we could stop for the night and rest, the guard said sure. We made our rides go straight down and found a cave that was in the mountains that separate us from everything. One of the guards had some food and I started a fire and we ate, then we slept till crack of dawn. And back on my bird and we were off, one of the guards was talking to his bird. "Does it understand you?" "Yes he does his name is Nicklaus, yours is Katie, if you listen closely you can hear her."
"Ugh I hate my job, why does this human smell bad? Hopefully she can't hear me if so I don't care cause she smells like our bird stall." Wow that bird was so negative, maybe I can cheer her up and she might like me. "Hey Katie if you won't to eat I can stop and let you eat." "Why would I stop and eat but I guess so could we eat some worms" "Sure, guards can we stop and get worms for our birds." "OK get a move on," We went down and got a few worms and the birds went crazy when they saw them. For the first time Katie let me pet her, and get close to her face. "Thank you, am ready to go now, sorry that I was rude before. My last rider used to hit me and starve me until I listen." "I didn't know I am not like that if you ever need anything just let me know." We went back on our trip and still be there before next week. We traveled the same way for three more days until we got caught in a storm that started to pick up the birds. The same way the tornado pick up Jane, I have to let go, I have to. Go Katie go, I screamed at the top of my lungs and the others followed while I was trying to find a place of shelter. Finally I spotted a crack in the mountains, it was a cave we got the birds in the back while we tried to but a long blanket on the opening of the cave. The wind was howling outside and we heard the thunder, we started a fire, the started to cook food we gave the left over to the birds. The birds didn't like green beans, bread, and turkey for a meal but they were hungry, so they ate like pigs. We went to bed, but I couldn't sleep because of all the rain and wind outside. "Psst Katie you away, Katie,Katie." "What do you want some of us are trying to go asleep," "Can I come sleep with you my sister and I use to sleep together when we were young when there was a storm." "Where is your sister, if you don't mind me asking." "She's gone she died in a tornado that we were chasing, see we where a team with two other guys. We were storm chasers, it was a normal day our boss said to get better photos and data. So we were following the biggest tornado in history, we called Zeus, but the drive got to close and it swept us up and the van got torn in half and my sister Jane got swept into it with my other friend. I found her dead she suffered a painful death, then I found Tiberous the guardian of the living. I miss her so much she was my best friend, and the greatest person you would have met." "I am so sorry, I lost one of my family members. It was my mother, it was like any other day but a dark shadow came and loomed over her swallow her and she disappeared. I miss her too she was the greatest mom ever my dad left me as a chick. But now we have to go asleep come here get under my wing like my mom would do when I couldn't sleep." I walked over and Katie lifted her wing and I got under it was like a soft, warm blanket. I almost fell asleep instantly, when I woke up it was still storming and ask why does it have to storm when we come by. One of the guards said that this was a spot anyway so the storm should pass over soon, just hang tight. We sat for hours and Katie started talking about how it was as a chick, she mostly had beautiful memory's but others were dark and sad.
"We can go now the storm has passed." We gathered our stuff and headed out for the mountaintops, Katie showed me where she use to live. She lived in the mountains near the very tip top, she said that she wish she could go back. I wish we could to her old home but we had to get to our destination before another storm hits. We were flying across the tops of the mountains when we heard thunder behind us. We flew as fast as we could in and out of the mountains. We finally reached the end of the mountain range, I turn around it look like it stop and growl at us. We flew and the terrain started to change from roughed to soft and comfortable. "We are here so everyone follow me," a guard said, so we got in a single file line and started to drift down. There was a island in the middle of the air, the Queen was right it was it was graceful.
We landed on a platform that was kind of large, all the birds landed on it. I had to walk Katie to a bird stall, she didn't like but it was the only way to get in. A young thing came up to me and said, "Hi am Rosemary, I am the protector of this land." "If you don't mind me asking what are you exactly," I said. "Well am a dragon of course, but who are you the Queen said a human is coming but what is your name?" "It's Kimberly or Kim either one is fine," "Nice to meet you Kim follow me I'll show you around." We started towards the center if the island, the place seem to go on forever. Clouds surrounded us but they were so fluffy and beautiful, Rosemary seem to have fun. She acted like a baby but when talking she seem to be millions of years old, she had that kind of old accent that you can only find in the older parts of the world. I started to touch one but Rosemary started to talk, "This is were I was born and most my family. And over there is were the oldest of creatures meets every few years unless things get out of control." She just kept going on it was so amazing things, most things was floating in the air. Rosemary stop all of a sudden and said "get down," and a dragon flew over but this one was black and huge unlike Rosemary. He seem to be looking for something but couldn't find it so, he left and we kept going. "Rosemary what was that," "Well that was a demon rider they are one of the most scary creatures in the universe. They been looking for creatures that they can brainwash them into killing machines. The usually go for the young they are easier to brainwash." "How do you know all this stuff?" "Well I use to be on the other side I was a brainwasher, I had the job to brainwash then then give them a new name and job. I didn't know what I was doing I was taken as a week old dragon, I was raised there with a demon. I was told I was abandoned by my true parents, and that I would be safe there. They taught me what and how I was supposed to, I had to see so many things loss their minds then told something that they never were. I thought I was doing good but the whole time I was the bad guy not them." She started crying, "I am sorry that I asked let's go on." "Your fine, and yes let's go on with the tour."
We went back on the tour, she showed me the best place to eat, sleep, and even baths. Every time we went near where she was born she almost cried. The wind started to pick up, Rosemary seemed concerned. "Runnn!" I took off towards a house, when I looked back there was a dragon twice the size of the demon rider's. The rider was different it was in fire the dragon was red not black and breathing fire. The dragon caught a glimpse of me and breathed in the oit came fire right towards me! I started to run I felt the heat in my back, my shirt seemed to melt off. I got in to a small cave in the nic of time. I saw the fire splash like a wave, against the white rocks which are now charcoal balck. I felt the hair on my arms burn off, some smoke got in my lungs so I started to cough. I heard a scream, then a roar that I've never heard before. When I look out I didn't see Rosemary instead I saw a large pink dragon fighting the red one. Apparently the roar was Rosemary she was twice the size of the red one, she bitting it neck until the rider decided to fly of before he's dragon got killed. The dragon could hardly get off the ground much less fly, red blood started to pour out of his wounds. He roared in pain when the rider pulled the reins, finally the monster got up and flew into the horizon. I watch it fly away till it disappeared in the clouds, when I looked over it was... Rosemary she was normal again her 4 foot self.
"How did you do that? How did you win? You were just like 50 feet high, how did you...?" She interrupted me, "I've been able to that since I was little, don't let size fool you here Kim. I not the only one to do this okay, I've been expecting this to happen. Someone is doing a inside job I can't tell who it is, just be careful, that was one of the worse things to run into." "What was that Rosemary?" I said so worry and scared, like when I was little with Jane when we were walking home from the park when it got dark. We ran as fast we could we got home really late mom was so mad. 'Those were the great days I wish I could go back.'
"Kim, Kim, Kim you there?"
"Did you hear anything I said?"
"Oh sorry just got lost in thought, can you please repeat." "That was a firestorm, one of the most fearsome creature in the universe they target creatures that are the threat to their kind. Apparently your a threat to their kind, do you know why or how." "Sorry no I wish I could help but I can't change like you, I don't even have power..." "Follow me I think I know where to go," Rosemary said while interrupting me. 'Wow she likes to interrupted me and we are we going' I said to myself. "Here get on," She said this as she started to grow just a couple fert. I got one and she flew in the air, we went to the only mountain around or in sight. "Where we going," "You'll see we are almost there." We were almost to the top then she went into a small opening. An old man was sitting there reading, his place had so many books and little things like flowers. "Hey Otterbein can you help me find her power or magical being." "Sure... rosemary anything for you whay is this young ones name," he said in a low, scraggly voice. He talk slowly and loudly. "Her name is Kim she comes from your world," "Your from Earth then you are special only a couple humans can pass through the barrier." "Really, well I have no special powers, am just plain storm chaser." "Let's just get started. Sit down in the circle and just close your eyes and you will go asleep." I sat down and close my eyes and instantly I fell asleep I saw myself as dragon I was huge I was 200 feet in the air and I breathed ice instead of fire. I could control water and I could see the furture, then after I got back to myself but I was crying saying it hurts it's fells like am on fire help... help. "Help help help..." "Wake up Kim wake up your alright." I heard Rosemary's voice so I woke up, I was still myself and all I could think about was what I saw and felt it was to real. "What was that I saw myself as a dragon I could so much but I felt like I was in fire." "That's your powers that's why the firestorm was looking for you, I just have to teach how to control it and find it. Thank you Otterbein see you next time." The old man had a mysterious smirk on his face but he wave goodbye and went back to reading. I hopped on Rosemary's back and flew down to a meadow away from everyone. We tried for hours trying to find how to find it deep inside. I was getting so FUSTRATED at myself, I couldn't find this one thing out ughh. Finally I tried to roar like Rosemary did and it worked, I was so huge and Rosemary smiled and roared and she roared tried to get me. I started to fly and chased after her apparently I was faster so I caught her quickly. "Come in nows it's time to learn how to breath fire," "I don't breath fire, I breath ice see." I blew in and pushed and ice came out and then I found a lake and signal Rosemary to follow I made the water splash on Rosemary. We went back home Rosemary look at me and said "now we no why the firestorm is looking for you now get some sleep." "Night Rosemary."
