The Song

I've compared many things to art for a long time, be it as flow of song or stroke of brush, and in this I've come across plenty of experiences and comparisons.  A good many will compare life to a roller coaster, but really, life is more than direction.  It has ups and downs, yes, but it also has emotions and sensations.  More than whipping through the air at speed, it's moving slowly when you can, speeding through unpleasantness, passing through all of life at the same speed all the while.  Even though we have plenty of things to compare ourselves to, none of which is accurate, as they are but comparisons.  Our life is limited by our perception, and it is because of this that we have so many conflicts.  If we put more effort into understanding the views of others, here would be so much less of an issue in the world.  We are able to comprehend a great many things, yet so many of us choose to be constrained by our selfish desires.

It's pretty clear that we all want to be happy.  Big whoop.  Such a surprise.  It's a common belief that anything not happy is bad, such as sadness or anger, but truly, these are as apart of us as joy.  We shouldn't limit ourself further just because we aren't doped up on oxytocin.  Just as a piano has white and black keys, naturals and sharps, flats and chords, we can't forget that the black keys make music as well.  Just because happiness isn't all we experience in life, that doesn't mean it's the only thing we should be experiencing.

Victory is born of adversity.  Adversity exists from conflict.  Without some obstacle to overcome, there isn't progress.  Without some enemy, mental, emotional, physical, we do not improve as a species, as a population, as a community, or as a person.  There is so much more than happiness, yet we're all chasing just the one emotion.
