Skylar's P.O.V.
I slowly walk through the gates, with my eyes closed. Then, I slowly opened them, and when I opened them, I was amazed.
Alexandria looked amazing.
You wouldn't believe your eyes. It was like normal life all over again. It was an actual community. A normal looking place. A neighborhood. How could this be? Is this even real? Again, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a miracle.
"Welcome," Rick smiled at us, the twelve newbies. "Follow Glenn and I, and we'll get you settled."
"See you later," I waved goodbye to Carl, and he waved back.
"You'll love it here," he mouthed, and he walked away.
Our group followed Rick, as he 'toured' us around the community, informing us what is what, and who is who.
"Oh hi, Rick," a woman with short grey hair, holding a baby girl, walked up to him. "And you must be the people who are joining us! I'm Carol," she shook Greg and Elise's hands, while they introduced them selves. She was aware they were our leaders.
"Wow, she is soooo adorable," Rachael squeaked, referring to the baby.
"Oh! This is Rick's daughter, Judith," she grinned at Judith, and back at us.
Rick has a baby? That means Carl has a baby sister. Ooooh, wait until I mention this to Carl.
Carol seemed so nice. For a moment, I seen her lock eyes with me, then shooting me a quick smile. She's so sweet, yet, she looks equal enough to every other guy in this community. The camo pants and the gun by her side really helped achieve that 'girly tough' look she's got going on.
As we kept on walking, Carol joined us, and I seen her starting to slow down so she can walk by my side.
"Hello young lady," she greeted, giving me a warm smile. "You are?"
"I'm Skylar. But you can call me Sky."
"Well, nice to meet you, Sky," she held her palm out for a shake, and I proceeded. "You're fairly young. Have you met Carl?"
"Yes, I have," I felt my cheeks begin to change pigment. "He's a really great guy, and we're good friends."
"That's great! You're going to love him even more. He's such a sweetheart."
"Yeah, I feel lucky to have somebody my age since this all began. It feels soooo good. And now I'm here. This feels like normal life all over again." I smiled, and she sent a friendly smile back.
"I'm glad you feel that way, because I think you're going to love it here."
And for the rest of the 'tour', Carol went on about how Alexandria has clean water, high food supply, and even electricity. Oh, god, really?! I can't wait to take my first shower. Hot shower, at that. For the first time in forever, I actually wasn't shy when I met somebody new. Carol was fairly nice, and she seemed to listen to what I had to say. I feel like I can really influence my actions off of her. She seems like a great role model here at Alexandria.
~about an hour and a half later~
Maggie had just showed Rachael and I our rooms, and the house we'll be staying in. Boy, was it super clean. Water. Power. Perfect. I couldn't ask for more. We have this whole place to ourselves! Our bedrooms were all set, mine down the hall from Rachael's. We both had fluffy comforters made on our beds, a lamp, a desk, and plenty of empty space. Just how I like it. Luckily, Carol had snuck some comics and books for me to read so I wouldn't be bored. Plenty of them.
Carol. I love her already.
There were two windows on one side of my room with shear, white curtains draping from the top. I loved my new bedroom. It was just like home, minus all my personal things and decorations.
I flopped down on my new bed, and dropped my things on the floor.
