Carl's P.O.V.

I had just finished getting dressed and was waiting for Skylar to come down into the dining room. I kept my jeans on and just slipped on a loose flannel shirt. You could say it wasn't formal enough, but I felt the way I presented my self met a formal visuals criteria. And as always, I kept my sheriff's hat placed on my head.

I couldn't wait to see Skylar.

Hopefully, she toned her outfit down just a bit so I wasn't the odd one out. But I bet no matter what she decided to wear, she was going to look effortlessly exceptional. I feel like everything about her is effortless, yet it suits her so well. Like her hairstyles and her clothes. Just perfect. I love that.

I was twiddling with my fingers when I seen Skylar walk into the dining room, not noticing me. She seemed as if she was looking for somebody. I snuck up behind her, and tapped her shoulder.

"Hey."

"Oh, hey, Carl," she turned around and what did I say? Perfect. "I was looking for you."

She wore her hair down in her natural waves, flowing on her right side. The dress she was wearing came a little above her knee..maybe, and over top of it, she wore a navy blue cardigan. Thank goodness, she toned it down with her canvas sneakers. I'd say, she was quite stunning for a girl my age in this 'apocalypse', so she calls it.

"Yeah, I was waiting for you," I said, still gazing at her appearance. "You look great, Sky."

"Really? Thanks! You, too." I could see her blushing a bit, slightly turning away.

"No don't turn away, no need to hide, haha," I said facing her towards me. "It's okay."

She flashed a sheepish smile towards my way, and we started towards the table, as my dad called us to gather around.

"Oh my god, I'm starving, I can't wait to eat," Skylar whispered in my ear. I could feel her soft lips lightly skim across my ear.

"Yeah, me too."

"Can you sit next to Rachael and I?" She asked, looking into my eye.

"Sure," I took her hand as my dad started to talk.

"I'm going to make this quick because I know you're all very hungry," he let out a friendly chuckle. "All I want to say is, to the 'newbies', here's a warm welcome to you all. Now, let's dig in."

I took Skylar's hand as we took our seats.

~~~~~
"I'm so stuffed," Skylar said as she patted her stomach.
"Yeah, me too. I feel so tired."
"Well, do you wanna lay down?" I could see the disappointment in her eyes. She didn't want me to go.
"Nahh, I'm fine. I'll stay with you," I yawned and gave her a genuine smile.
"C'mon," I grabbed her hand, and dragged her out of the dining room.
"Where are we going?"
"I wanna take you somewhere... Special."
We finally came to a stop when we reached my bedroom. "Follow me."
I started to climb out of my window to the heading outside of it. I sat, criss-crossed on the heading while Skylar sat holding her knees against her chest. She looked a little cold, I guess.
"You cold Sky? Where's your cardigan?" I asked touching her shoulder.
"I left it on the back of my chair in the dining room, but I'm fine. Thank you, though," she continued to shiver, and I wasn't tolerating that.
"Come here," I said, pulling her closer to me, giving her no choice but to be wrapped in my arms. "Better?"
"A lot," she replied, no longer shivering.
"Well, this is where I chill, ya know," I let out a small chuckle. "Mostly at night time. I swear I have the best view out of everybody living here. You can see, almost, the whole Alexandria. Isn't great?"
"Wow, you're right. This is beautiful. The view is amazing. I wish this was mine," she seemed to speak in a dreamy voice when she was tired. I could listen to that all day.
"Well, if you want, it could be yours for the night," I winked at her, and she gave me a puzzled look.
"What do you mean?"
"Stay the night with me, like I did in your room. Wouldn't you like that? Just for tonight?"
"Well, I didn't even sleep in my own bed yet," she wasn't sure about her decision.
"Well I won't tell you to do anything. It's your choice," I said, rubbing her shoulder.
"What if we could sleep up here? That'd be perfect," she said, shaking her head back and forth, then yawning.
"That's a great idea, unfortunately, we can't. I don't want to roll off the roof," we imagined what that would be like, and we both laughed.
The stars were extremely dreamy tonight, and there were plenty of them. They were so bright, and bold, it almost didn't even seen like night time, nor day. It was like another dimension. And I was with Skylar. She made everything so much better. So much bolder, like the stars. I didn't want her to sleep in her bed tonight. I wanted her to sleep by my side, in my bed tonight, underneath my warm covers, and my arms wrapped around her like they are right now, tightly around her waist, keeping her warm. I didn't want her to leave me. I could stay awake right here all night, sitting next to Skylar.
I could feel her start to drift off to sleep in my arms. And before I could wake her up, she was sound asleep. Without waking her up, I slowly lifted her up into my arms, and lied her down on my bed.
"Goodnight, Sky," I whispered in her ear, and pulled the covers up to her shoulders.
I took off my hat, placed it on my bedside table and sat on the side of my bed.
She was really in my bed.
I looked back at her face, sound asleep. She looked so peaceful, and comfortable. How could that be? She looked as if she was in heaven. After changing into my pajamas, I slipped under my covers and was fast asleep.
