okay read on .. 💕Skylar's P.O.V.
"Okay, I suppose they're ready now," Carol muttered as she quickly walked over to the oven.
Wow. I'm still amazed that they have ovens here. I still find that quite fascinating and unbelievable. I love it here.
Carl's eyes seemed to dilate every time somebody mentioned 'cookies', and he'd go on and on about how much he adored and 'praised' chocolate chip cookies.
I just wanted them to be done baking and let him devour them as much as he wanted, because this was getting annoying.
"Yayyy," Carl said weakly, lightly clapping his hands.
The smoke danced in swirls above the scorching hot cookies as Carol excluded them from the oven with her thick, warm oven mittens.
Carl immediately reached for one. "Ah, ah, step back," Carol ordered. "They're too hot, wait five minutes."
He sighed and flopped down on the sofa in the living room.
He really couldn't wait for these cookies, haha.
I stared at him in amusement as he huffed on the couch, a puppy dog expression plastered on his face.
"Chill, they're just cooling down," I muttered, placing my left hand on his shoulder. "You wanna burn your tongue?"
He rolled his eyes and walked over to the island where the cookies sat there waiting; waiting to be devoured.
~~~~~
"Ahh, they were so scrumptious," he slid his tongue along his bottom lip, wiping away the remaining crumbs.
I swear he had, like, 12 cookies. Meanwhile, I underdogged to about 2. Yes, they were very good cookies to be eating in this apocalypse, it felt like a dream. But still, I had to stay in shape.
"Yeah, they were," I agreed, tossing the tray in the sink. "Which reminds me. I should probably go," I sighed.
"What? Why?" he furrowed his eyebrows.
"Remember? I smell like a chocolate factory? I need to shower."
He rolled his eyes and slapped his hands on his thighs. "Ugh, fine. Go ahead, I'll be waiting for you."
Throwing my satchel over my shoulder, I walked outside, the heat of the sun gleaming on my bare skin.
I wonder if they have sunscreen
Ehh, I won't bother asking.
The sight of the vivid green trees slightly made me smile. There were even vibrant flowers, a hot fuchsia, with those long stemmy yellow strings of nectar peeking out from the center. It was so beautiful, even in this world now, it made me happy and reminded me of how great times used to be.
I finally reached my room, and I stripped off my clothes. After grabbing a towel from the hallway closet, I pulled my hair into a low loose ponytail. I was planning on washing my hair. I couldn't wait for the hot steamy water to hit my back, and the lathering of the soap, leaving my skin very clean and smooth.
After about 10 minutes, I finally was ready to step in, and relax under the shower head. Once the water hit my skin, it felt like heaven. God, I can't believe I was feeling this right now.
~~~~~
"Phew!" I said aloud to myself while entering my bedroom.
I dried off with my soft microfiber towel and slipped on my undergarments. I'm so glad I finally washed my hair. As long as it was, it collected mounds of dirt through these past years, and trust me, it needed some scrubbing.
My strands were soaking wet, droplets of water raining on my shoulders. I really wanted to ask if they had some type of blow dryer here, but I was too lazy to ask and just let it air dry.
And since my hair took forever to air dry, I had to walk around with wet hair all day.
Eh, whatever. I guess it won't hurt.
I picked out some skinny cargos and a beige tank top to wear. For my shoes, I just slipped on my everyday combat boots. They were super comfy, anyways.
My satchel hanging loosely from my shoulder, I walked outside and started searching for Rachael. I wanted to inform her about the shower I took.
Again, God it felt good.
After searching for her for about 5-10 minutes, instead, I run into Carl.
"Oh, you're out? How was it?" he questioned, seeming out of breath.
"Oh great," I shifted my eyes around, still keeping my eye out for Rachael. "Um," I cleared my throat. "Have you seen Rachael?"
He shook his head. "But wow, you like kinda hot with your hair like that," he looked me up and down. "Nice."
"Oh shush," I sassed, stroking my wet strands, then swept them behind my back. "Thanks anyways."
"No really, you do," he said, taking my hand in his. "But, uh, we have something to take care of."
Puzzled, I furrowed my eyebrows and ceased my movements. "Which is?"
"We have to go on a run," he gestured towards the gates with his thumb. "We're just going to search this abandoned store Glenn and I found. We never checked it out, but my dad figured you and I go. It's nothing dangerous we'll be fine."
I gulped, and my stomach turned. "But we don't have weapons," I whined.
"Already covered, let's go," he handed me a gun and pulled me towards the gates. "Oh and just so you know already, your sister knows you're going so it's fine."
One of the guys here, Spencer, unlatched the gates for us and we were outside of Alexandria walls.
"Be careful," he assured us, and sent us a quick wink. "Keep her safe, Carl."
"No need to worry," Carl winked back at him.
Ugh, I was so not ready.
