Chapter Four: Good Luck With The New Drummer
I couldn’t sleep. I sat the mysterious note on my desk; my heart feeling like it’s about the pound out of my chest. Would Noah have left a note like this as a joke? It’s not funny. It’s far from funny. If he wanted to scare me, he did a good job at it. I don’t have any enemies as far as I know. My brother is at Noah’s drunk off of his ass. I couldn’t think of anyone else who would leave a note as a joke. But what if it isn’t a joke? What if someone’s warning me to stay away from Noah?
Too many thoughts were flying through my mind. It was either a joke, or someone is telling me to stay away from Noah. I didn’t plan on spending time with Noah anyway. So that shouldn’t be a problem. But if I find out he did it as a joke, I will probably knee him in the groin. Everything was just making me feel uneasy and unstable. I couldn’t tell my parents about this or Ash for that matter. What if it doesn’t even have to do with Noah? I shouldn’t be these thoughts in my head.
I shut the light off on my desk and climbed into bed. The first person I would call would be Ashley. Maybe she was in on the joke, or maybe she did it because she wants Noah. I’ve known Ashley to be vindictive and spiteful. But I don’t think she would stoop as low as scaring the crap out of me. She’s above that and she’s my best friend. If she had a problem, she would come to me.
I pulled my phone out at the breakfast table and sent Ashley a message to meet me at Delly’s Café and she replied with ten minutes. I ran up the stairs to get ready. I pulled on jeans and a t-shirt I stole from Ash awhile ago. I slipped my shoes on and walked outside. I was walking to Delly’s, which was only about a ten minute walk from my house. I had tucked the note into my pocket and it felt like it was burning. I have a feeling this note wasn’t a joke, but I’m crossing my fingers and hoping it was.
I found Ashley sitting at one of the tables outside, with sunglasses covering her eyes. She had her head resting on her hand and no smile. She was completely hung over. I sat down across from her and she lifted her head. “This better be good. My head feels like it’s about to explode.” She groaned and sipped on her water.
I dug into my pocket and pulled the note out. I pushed it toward her, “Please tell me you know something about this.”
She unfolded the paper and lifted the sunglasses on the top of her head. Her eyes widened, “I have no idea, Willow. Who the hell would do this?”
I could only hope. “I don’t know. I was hoping you knew something. Maybe it was Ash trying to play a joke.”
She folded the paper back up and pushed it back towards me. “As far as I know, it wasn’t Ash or any of his friends. How’d you get home last night?”
“I walked.”
“By yourself?”
I shook my head, “Noah walked with me.”
She threw her hands in the air, “Well, there you go. It was Noah.”
I shook my head again, “I don’t think so. I mean, wouldn’t that be too obvious?”
“You have a point. Maybe it’s just one of his stalker ex girlfriends that want him back. You have nothing to worry about, Angel.”
That was a lie. “I’m going to go to his house tonight and talk to him. Maybe he knows the handwriting? It is too pretty to be a guy’s handwriting.”
