If only my heart were as cold as I pretend it is, maybe I could get over this. - Jessica Katoff

Selene Sinclair's P.O.V.

Everything around me had stopped. I could definitely hear the movement and voices of people around me, see the blurry colors pass by. But I was stuck in my place. I felt like I could not breathe, my throat constricting at the sudden news I had received.

I heard my name being called, I heard gasps, I heard movements throughout the kitchen but my whole being was only fixated on the ruthless, heartless creature that had truly become a sudden part of my life; a part I had not anticipated nor wanted.

His strikingly stormy blue eyes had wandered over me with slight concern clouding them. I could see his wolf, calling out for my own as those sapphire orbs held much emotion. But as soon as that occurred, the look in those eyes vanished as he banished his wolf from me.

And it was in that moment I had been hurt emotionally by my mate, the first, and sadly, not last.

My heart sanked with hurt, dismay, and anger. The pain placing a slight pressure onto my heaving chest, tears almost brimming my pale green eyes. How could he?! No matter our ranks, given that I am his mate, I am to be his equal, none of us higher than the other. My anger outweighed my pain as my dominant fighting side had started to appear. But my nerves had calmed when my wolf, Alayla, had started to whimper at the rejection from our mate.

He looked up to someone on my right, to the far back. His plump pink lips moved with grace as words spilled through those white pearls. I had not understood what hit me but I could not move, my thoughts trained on the idea of this beast, this merciless murder, being my mate.

Then, abruptly, a melodic voice cut through my chain of thoughts when those loathsome words had seeped out of her mouth. "I am not quite sure, but I presume this woman and Aiken are mates."

I gaped at her. Not only as a result of her right presumption but also by her beauty. I was truly taken by surprise, fully to the word. She was gorgeous, even more so.

Locks of black cascaded down her shoulders reaching below her breasts. The blue orbs that bore into mine were swimming with deep emotion that made my skin crawl. Her pink lips, plump and round, were the perfect shade and the perfect shape. Her hourglass body was eccentrically prominent, exhibiting her marvelous bust, breasts and making her hips exceedingly eye-catching.

"Is it true, Selene?" My father asked, a glint of hope of me not being the ruthless killer's mate was evident and I sighed when I realized how much this will affect him.

"Yes, Dad. He is my mate." My voice had sounded to be quite calm, collected, and it surprised me. My nerves were a wreck and my mind was spinning with thoughts that had made me dizzier than I had ever been.

My father sighed, and everyone present had gasped in shocked. Murmurs and chatters had arose at the news, as no one had believed the beloved daughter of the Blood Moon Alpha to be mated with the notorious, demonic Alpha King.

The ostentatious woman who had previously introduced me to her accompanies as the Alpha King's mate, spoke up. "It is a pleasure to meet you," she stuck her hand out in front of me, the tan metacarpal joined with my pale one as she shook them.
