Two families alike
In their devotion to themselves
Engorged on their heritage blood
Feeding like eagles
Fattened and proud
As kings and queens
Out for the hunt
As horses stampeding
themselves into oblivionThe dogs are afoot
The foxes have fled
The hope and the lifeblood
Have been drained
Culminating in a sacrifice
At the centre of it all
Women and men transfixed
By a glorious beast
Burning their enemies
At the steak
Heretics hung
Smoke too thick to see
To breathe
To hear
To loveAshes settling like leaves
Forever glued
To the cement of communion
Pagan hands touching
prayers uttered in hushed tones
Uniting in chaosAshes falling all around us
Burning like frail wings of embers
Falling in glittery pirouettes
With desperation
As they reach the water
And burning out forever
Water kills fire
The ashes settled
