It was a the top of the 7th hour when the group entered the castle after an exciting day. Supper in the Great Hall was about to start, so they all went to their dorms to drop off their goodies.
Hermione climed up the stairs and headed to the portrait of Snape. Just as she was approaching, it swung open and Draco stepped out. Hies eyes were tired. He looked up and they both stopped short. He looked at her face for a long moment taking in her small flushed face and wide eyes, and then looked away and kept walking. Hermione turned around but he was already gone. She turned back to Snape and whispered the password.
"Do I sense a little attraction between you and Mr. Malfoy?", asked Snape.
"I don't know what you're talking about, now please let me in, I need to go down for Supper."
Hermione rushed into her room and hid her bags into her closet. She changed into her Gryffindor jumper and some warm leggings. Checking to make sure that her jumper covered her bum, she completed her outfit with a pair of flats and slipped downstairs.
She arrived in the Great Hall right before Headmistress McGonagall stepped up. Hermione quickly grabbed a seat across from Ginny and directed her attention to the front.
"Ahem. For tonight's announcements I have a few. First of all, Quidditch tryouts will be when we get back from the Christmas holiday, so if you plan on trying out please make sure to show up at the practices. A schedule will be posted outside of the Hall. Secondly, Please do not forget about your O.W.L.S and your other final exams that are approaching in the 2nd week of December."
That statement received many sighs and groans from the various tables.
"And last of all, 7th Years, as you know already, a ball was announced just this morning and I promised more details later. A date has been decided, the 18th was the best suitable date and should give you plenty of time to ask a lady." Another round of groans went around the hall. "So with all of that, enjoy your meal."
"Oi, Hermione, who do you want to go with, or has someone already made you an offer?" Ginny teased across the table.
Hermione started blushing, but tried to keep herself from smiling. "Well, there is someone, but I don't think it's anything really."
"Ooo tell me about him" squealed Ginny.
"Seriously, are we all required to ask someone?" Asked Ron. "Yes Ronald, you have to ask someone." The redhead fired back.
"How come you are going, you're a 6th year?" Said Ron pointing accusingly. "Harry asked me this morning, but you were too busy eating that you didn't notice." Ginny gave Ron a stern look and turned away.
On the next table over, Draco Malfoy sat pushing his food around his plate.
"Come on Draco, you should eat something." Pansy Parkinson urged.
"I didn't come back for you to be my mother. Leave me alone...please." Said Draco roughly pushing her away.
"Fine, I'm sorry I was just trying to help."Draco looked around the Great Hall taking in the sights and smells and trying to remind himself that this was safe and this was Home. Everything was the same, the floating candles that hung in mid-air and the enchanted ceiling. The front podium where Dumbledore once stood. His chest felt heavy as he saw every memory here at Hogwarts.
Taking one more sip of from his goblet, he started to get up. "Where are you going?" Pansy questioned grabbing his wrist. "I'm going to my room, and I would appreciate if you wouldn't touch me." He said shaking her off. Slowly he rose and strode out the open Hall doors and up the stairs the the 5th floor. But little did he know that a certain someone was watching him.
