                                                                           Chapter 2

                                                                    The man in the Fields

Mary woke up. Realizing she was lying in the sofa in the sala. She wished it was just a bad dream, but it wasn't. The death of granny was real. Her head was spinning, lightheaded and filled with agony and pain. The one who raised her like her own child was dead. She can't bring her back anymore, hug her, kiss her. The one who taught her about gardening, the one who cares for her when she's sick. Tears was falling, she wanted to know who did this to her. And why would they want to kill her kind and loving granny. Did she fought someone? Someone who hold a grudge on her? She can't renenber who could do this to her.

"It was a gunshot sweetie". Her grandpa said as he approached the sala. "Someone shot her, holding a gun, he ran and the police pursuited him. No knows who he was, where he lived or even his face."

"I will kill him" She said with anger in her tone.

"No you won't."

"I will, youll see. Don't he dare show up or I'll beat him!"

"Tha's bad sweetie, let's just leave it to the police" His grandpa replied. "Revenge won't make him change what happened to your grandma Lorile."

"I don't care." Then a policewoman came. She realized it was the city's police, having no sign of recogntion from the town police.

"He's heading to the woods, it's quite near by here so don't go out. We'll try to catch him if we can." She warned.

"You get some rest sweetheart." His grandfather said, pulling a clean blanket over her. He kissed his blanket and left.

                                                                        **********

"He came here by a bus.  He came to town, buyed a few supplies. His face was covered with a jacket so no one saw his face."Mary heard the policewoman say. "He's in the woods. We're doing our best sir, a little bit of patience and the man would be captured."

"Just don't hurt him ma'am." His grandfather said. "I just want to talk to him.”

"We would, unless he's armed, that way we don't have any choice."

"Kill him if you man." Mary interrupted.

"Mary!" Her grandfather said.

"I understand how youn feel Mary, but we must  respect his human rights, we can't just kill him"

"Well you have my word, so now you can."

"But mar-"

"ENOUGH MARY! I AM TIRED OF YOU!" His grandpa bellowed, the policewoman flinched, then Mary's eyes widened. This was the first time her grandpa was mad at her. Then he calmed down, then turned to the policewoman."You may now leave." The policewoman nodded and left...

"I hate you..." Then Mary left.

"Mary, wait Mary!" His grandpa said. Then Mary stopped.

"I'm gonna harvest some corn, what do you want?" Mary scowled.

"Mary I'm so sorry okay?" He panted. "Everything in this world needs to be loved, didn't your granny talk to you about that? Someday you'l learn that even your enemies should be loved too!"

"And when is that? I don't love my enemies, I only love my gramma, the farm, Merriweather, and I don’t know if you’re still one of them!"

"You'll understand it sooner or later, right now you must move on, she's dead. Would it make her happy knowing that you're murderer?

"She's dead grandapa! This is for her, so if you'll not understand, just... JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Her grandfather sighed... "Someday you'll understand..."

“I WON’T!!!”

                                                                            **********

Days have past, still no signs of the man, no findings, nor reports. Just a bunch of trails and leftovers. Mary was furious, she wanted to beat the police. But she was thinking of something... What was her grandpa talking about? She was feeling the same prickly feeling again. Was it her grandpa? She heard groans... And breathing, as if there's no oxygen in the air...

"He-help..." The voice said... Mary froze... Was it her grandpa? No... Then She passed through the corn plants... Then she saw it, a man. Half naked, tan, handsome, his beautiflly shaped body filled with mud, a gunshot by his shoulder and a blood trickling from his head.

"Man... Gun... Woods..." He said as he fainted.

Who was this man???

Then she realized something... This man was a victim of the murderer...
