Mary's eyes widened, the clouds of gloom vanished. She saw the man, his bandaged head, his leathery tan rose back in life. Mary, who can't believe the miracle hugged the man.
"Are you my wife?" He asked.
Mary reddened.
"No. But I'm the one who saved you."
"Why am I saved? What happened to me?" He asked Mary, who's eyes are filled with tears. He can't remember. What happened?
"Yo-you can't remember?" Mary stuttered..
"Yes,"
"Even your name?"
"Who am I?"
Days has passed, the man's head injury healed, but his memories was still a mystery. The doctor said that in a couple of months, he will be healed and all will be restored, and that is the thing Mary hoped to happen.
"You all be safe.." Her grampa said.
"We're gonna be fine gramps, he said he'll help me harvest the corn."
"Okay, I'll go buy some supplies for our farm."
"Bye grandpa! Be safe!"
"I will, if you will. No funny business. And don't torture this guy."
"Okay, love you."
They all harvested the crops, the man's body was fast and large. Muscled and tan.
Crap. This man is super hot, his abs showing, which made Mary giggle a little. She straightened and continued working.
An hour has passed, the guy, still no word. So awkward. She go back to their house to fetch some lemonade and some meat for lunch. Then the guy made something which made the situation more awkward. He grabbed the old umbrella stand, a table with two chairs. He grabbed the chair, gesturing Mary to sit.
Gosh, he's so charming and sweet. Mary sit down. Then The man sit down too.
"Thanks Mary," He said, his voice cool and minty.
"For what?"
"For everything, your helping me cause you care about me." He smiled.
Mary stared at him. "I'm sorry, but I only want to help you because you're the only key in helping me attain my grandmother's justice. Please don't think of it that way."
"Really? Just that?"
Mary's heart fell. Feeling the guilt it brought. She inhaled. "Yes, only that."
"Fine," The man frowned.
"Now eat all you can."
"I don't wanna eat."
Uh oh. Double trouble.
Mary inhaled agian, "Fine don't eat." The man left. And as he grabs his basket, he fell to his knees.
"NO!" Mary ran.
The man laughed. Still don't care about me eh?" He chuckled.
Mary scoffed. "Never."
Then the man left disappeared within the field. His head sticking out of the corn stem. Then Mary was cutting another corn as the man's head was gone in the field.
Mary laughed. "Never gonna happen again dude."
The man didn't reply.
"Stop joking please!"
"She approached the man, in the center of the cornfield. Where the highest corn stood. Then as she called again some guy, in black. Masked.
No way. She trembled. And as he turned, some force pulled her, something covered her mouth. The man...
"Is he the man? Do you remember anything?"
"NO."
"Shit,"
"You still think about that, now that we're gonna die?"
"Yes,"
"Fine die. But I'm sure he'll kill your grandfather."
Mary trembled. "DO something! Look the truck! I can hear it! It's getting near!"
"Tell me how much you care about me."
"Fine, I care about you."
"Feel it,"
"I can't."
"Okay,"
Mary sighed, she swallowed her pride. She cared about this guy, 30% and the other was for her grandmother's answer.
Mary hugged the guy, the smell of the grass, muddy but warm. Making her feel better. "I care about you."
