"Sans, what are you-?"
"When I was living on the streets I had nothing except these cats. Their still mine to take care of."
She smiled, tilting her head. "Yeah, I guess so. Let's get a few bowls for them."
He smiled. She always understood. "Yeah, I'd like that."
~
"Hey its your phone."
You groaned and pressed your face into the pillow.
"Girl don't test me pick up the phone and shut off the alarm."
You sat up and stretched, Ignoring your alarm.
"Hey, I said-"
You turned it off. Somehow, an alarm that sounded real woke you up better than one that just played a tune. Your old boyfriend had made that alarm for you as a joke.
You had laughed only a little.
Your children awaited you at school. But that was all.
No family.
No boyfriends, or roommates.
Just you in a thousand year old house that creaked at the slightest breeze. You yawned as you walked to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. You smiled at the pictures taped up around it. All of your families that you'd lived with, and the nicer monsters you'd met.
It made you happy to see these.
You brushed your teeth, as usual, and did your hair.
You thudded down the stairs, each step creaking, and went to the kitchen to make coffee.
You hated Fridays.
They meant being alone for two whole days.~
Your cars tire was flat, so you took the bus.
The bus got stuck in traffic.
This is why you had left early.
You got to school on time and did your daily stuff. Tidy the classroom, get out all kinds of crayons. You worked in a little preschool building that you liked to refer to as a school.
But it was just a small building made fit for children.
More like a babysitting place than anything.
Time passed, and the parents showed up with their kids.
Monsters and Humans alike.
You greeted each one with a smile, and either a hug or just a verbal greeting.
You kept on checking the end of the street, looking for Frisk.
She walked around the curb, but this time no one was with her.You smiled as she walked up. "Hey kid."
She simply held out her hand. You chuckled and shook it. She always did this.
"Where's your Uncle? Doesn't he usually walk you to the end of the street?"
"Dunkle." Frisk corrected you. "And he's locked up in his room."
"Is he okay?"
"He's alright, I guess. He's done this before."
Frisk and her family had moved there about three months ago. They kept to themselves, not going out much.
They were a pretty shady family.~
Frisk was drawing.
Now, usually, Frisk sits in the book corner reading the same book over and over again, so the fact that she was drawing with everyone else was quite a surprise.
You walked around to each kid.
"What are you drawing?""My mom!"
"My dog!"
"My fish!"
"Sans."
You frowned at her paper. "Your Dunkle has sharp teeth?"
The little kid had drawn a monster, with a blue shirt, holding hands with Frisk. He did in fact seem to be snarling.
"Hun, is your Dunkle nice to you?" You asked.
"Yeah. We watch the news a lot. My mom doesn't like it, but he says I'm learning."
You glanced at the other kids. They were engrossed in their own childish things. So you sat with Frisk, who was alone. "So, why do you call him Dunkle?"
She shrugged. "Well, when we first came up here, he dated my mom for a little bit, but they broke up. He disappeared after that, for like, a bunch of years. But when we moved here, he showed up again. Now he's living with us. I didn't know whether to call him dad or uncle, so I called him Dunkle. He thinks it's cute." She kept on coloring.
You smiled. "Your pretty smart, kid. Is it cause of all that news?"
She went silent and shook her head.
You stood up. "Alright. I'll be right back."
You knew that once she stopped talking, she wouldn't again for awhile.
~
Aw man. I'm gonna need to get more groceries.
You stared into your fridge. Tomorrow. You'd go out tomorrow. You just wouldn't eat tonight.
An: Did I mention this would be a slow burn?
....
Well, it will.
