Chapter Six: Mission to Kill
We ran through the forest in a strict arrow formation. I was at the front, Mike on my right and Nina on my left and the rest of the wolves flanked behind them. In this formation we had our eyes on anything and everything. Mike kept snapping orders at everyone through the bond but I didn’t mind, I needed to stay focused to find Maria.
Everyone HUSH! I snarled and they all immediately froze I could sense Maria so I stopped running. The pack fanned out around me and Mike rubbed his nose across the side of my face.
Are you ok hun? He asked, concerned
Shhhhhh, I think I can sense her. Guys fallow me quietly. If you see an unfamiliar wolf, kill it. Make sure they don’t see you and eliminate the enemy. Kayne is MINE! Understood?! I snapped and immediately got “Yes Mam’s” from every pack member there.
Mike kept his eyes on me, like he thought I was going to snap. The truth was I was preparing to kill Kayne. We had been close as children but, when we grew up, I became Alpha, and refused his offer to mate so he could take over the pack he left. He took several of the lower rank pack members with him and joined a pack of outlanders. He soon became Alpha, by killing the previous Alpha, and now he had everyone scared of him.
Sophie! Mike roared right as I heard a twig snap to my front. I let snarls tear through my body as Kayne stepped through the bushes, he was flanked by at least ten wolves and three more fallowed shortly dragging a beat up looking Maria behind them.
Kayne growled at me and I saw his muscles tense to pounce, but I beat him to it. I threw myself at him and clamped my teeth around his neck. I let out a string of snarls, telling the back three to let Maria go. They let her walk towards us and her mate lunged to protect her. He let her lean against him and Mike stayed next to them, as to protect them from harm. My first mistake was watching my pack members walk to safety and forgetting about the wolf I had in my jaws for even a moment. My next mistake, and fatal, was watching Mike to make sure he was ok. Suddenly I was ripped off of Kayne and thrown into a tree, which promptly snapped in half. Mike was suddenly on top of me in a protective position, roaring at Kayne.
Mike, I’m fine…. I said and then realized that Kayne could probably see the mark that showed Mike was my mate.
MIKE RUN!!!!! I screamed and jumped up, placing myself in-between them.
Why would I do that? He asked
Because…he was determined to be my mate, Mike. I can’t let him hurt you. I whimpered and I saw Kayne’s eyes go to my paw where my mark was. He let out a howl and charged at me. That would be when all of his followers charged at mine and all hell broke loose.
