Carl POV

Enid and I stood there, staring into each others eyes, in silence. Until we heard loud feet stomp the ground as they ran. It broke the silence, and the moment. I then heard Maggie's voice laugh of joy. I looked to where it was coming from. She was in the middle of the huge crowd.

"The baby kicked! I felt the baby kick!" She yelled. Glenn ran up to her and gave her a kiss.

My eyes widened with excitement , and I zoomed toward her. The baby kicking meant that it was still alive. Denise stood in the corner, seemingly humiliated. She didn't have to feel that way, but I understood why she did. She told Maggie and Glenn that their baby was dead, only to find out a week later that the baby was fine.

My dad, me, and Enid were all surrounding Glenn, Maggie, and the baby growing inside of her. I looked at my dad, who was filled with joy. However, I also saw fear forming that another situation like my mom was going to repeat itself. I held on to his shoulder, and signaled that it won't happen again. We have better resources for this kind of thing than ever before. I laughed, making Enid laugh, then making everyone laugh.

Maggie took me and Enid's hands and placed them on top of her stomach. I felt a little signal of life touch the tips of my fingers. I had never felt so much happiness.

Enid stared at me, smiling. She was happy, and that made my day even more bright. We were still staring at each other, when Michonne walked toward my dad, tapping my shoulder on the way.

"Alright, you two love birds. We get it! Pay attention to the baby!" Michonne's statement made everyone laugh so much more.

"Love birds? Ehh?" My dad asked. Enid giggled as I shrugged. I then saw Michonne hug onto to my dad, making my eyebrows raise. I evilly smiled toward my dad.

"Oh, come on now, Carl." Michonne giggled. "You've known for a while."

"I know, I know. It's still a little weird." I cringed.

"Why is it weird? We're all family here! I can be like your second mom." She tapped me. As much as I enjoyed the thought of Michonne being a mother figure, the word mom brought persistent memories to my mind. Michonne immediately saw the look on my face, and looked up at my dad, seeking advice.

"Carl, let's be happy at this moment." My dad sternly told me. I nodded. I wanted to be happy. H*ll. I needed to.

I looked at Enid as we walked to her house. She still had a smile on her face from earlier.

The sun was quickly sinking to the bottom of the earth. I hated this time of night. It seemed to be their "hunting hours," even though they crave the taste of flesh and blood daily.

I gently nudged Enid, bringing her happy thoughts about the baby to an end. She looked at me, attentive.

"I love you. And I'm not just saying that. You bring me joy, daily, that I haven't felt in years. You, Judith, and the baby that's on its way." I told her. "I just wanted to let you know..." I paused, holding onto her hands. "That I will stand by you, and protect you, every step of the way. Your my best friend. I've never known anybody as great as you. And I never want to lose you."

There was a great silence among us. Neither of us spoke for minutes on end. My mind raced. Does she not love me as much as I love her? Why isn't she saying anything back?
Are we too young for this kind of love?

All of the sudden, I felt Enid pull me close to her, connecting her lips with mine. My eyes were stuck open. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't close my eyes. I felt my cheeks burning up. The butterflies in my stomach wouldn't go away. I was nervous. This phenomenon had never happened before in my life.

She seemed to be completely ready. She didn't seem nervous, or anxious at all. I thought, what if I pretended to be her for a second or two? Could I be as comfortable with this as she is?

So, I did. I closed my eyes, and relaxed.

We stood there, holding hands while we kissed. After a small amount of time, she pulled away.

My cheeks were probably as red as a tomato, and it didn't help by how embarrassed I was by it all.

She pulled me into the warmest of hugs, and started gently talking into my ear.

"I love you too. I would have never imagined this to be when we met seven months ago. I would have never thought that I would grow to be this close to you and your group." She said back.

We hugged for what seemed forever, but when we realized how dark it was, we said our goodbyes and ran home.
