This is gonna be one long fucking chapter lemme tell you that right now.
Okay, so to go ahead and say this, I'm a white person and I live in the South. My school is a private one, and like more than 80% of the student body is also white people. This seems like not a very diverse school, but my old school had two poc the entire seven years I was there. Most of the kids that come to my school are from privileged families, and have never had to see their parents stress about money in their lives. These kids won't have to get jobs so they can pay for their college or get a new car, it's given to them. My family is a very middle class family, we used to have more money but my mom switched jobs so now she's making less. We have nice things, and sometimes I do sound like a brat because we don't do as much as we used to. But honestly is pretty much sickens me to hear these kids whine.
These kids complain about their iPhone 6 because they want the newer 6s. One boy said he's gotten six new phones in the past school years, and all of them have been an iPhone 6. Another boy broke his phone on purpose because he knew he'd get another one. I've heard the girls mock other people because of what their parents do for a living, as if that puts that family beneath theirs. I am by no means a perfect person with fantastic manners, but I would never shame someone for trying to make their children's (or their own) lives better.
These students don't care how much their parents spend every month so that they can go to a protected, upper class school. They constantly complain about being disciplined for things that they shouldn't be doing in the first place, and then say they want to go to public school. I know that there are some very nice public schools out there, and not every one has gangs or is dangerous. But the ones in our area of the state are extremely dangerous. The high school that I would have to go to has multiple gangs that are constantly fighting one another in public places. These rich kids don't understand that the way they act wouldn't last a day in the schools in our area.
They don't care about the fact that barely passing, or failing their classes, means that their parents are wasting hundreds of dollars a month on their non-education. They stress for five minutes and then go back to giggling and talking while the teacher is literally telling us what is going on the test, verbatim.
The thing that has truly shocked me the most is how disrespectful these students are to their teachers and parents. My parents are not very strict about me using phrases such as "yes ma'm" or "no sir" to them, but have always told me to respect other adults. It seems that these children were never taught this however, by the way that they treat our teachers. In my 4th period class their talkativeness and disruptiveness have caused our teacher to cry two different times. Some of our teachers can control some of them, but in this class all of the disruptive kids are in this one class.
All of these people honestly just really frustrate me, but it's better than the last school I went to. I also know that any school I go to will always have kids like this, no matter what. So honestly I'm just really excited for my high school days to be over and to get to college.
