My love for athletics started the simplest way.

"Ashli, I got a letter from school..." mum shouted from down stairs. "Do you fancy going to athletics club after school ?" I thought for a moment before shouting back. "Yeah, I suppose I could give it a go" I replied. I had nothing better to do after school on a Friday for an hour. "That's fine honey, pack your P.E kit now because it's Thursday today" I groaned loudly, why should i have to pack my own kit. "Mum please can you pack it for me?" I whined. "No way honey, I know your only 10, but you need to learn to be more independent" I sighed, infuriated before retrieving my P.E bag and packing it whilst sulking.

"Morning hon, you got your first athletics session today, I'll pick you up at the main entrance after" mum explained coming into my room and opening my blind. I whimpered at the sudden light and I put my pillow over my face to block out the bright sunlight. "Ashli, seriously" mum giggled at my reaction. "You need to get dressed for school, your dad's in bed after being at work all night so keep the noise down please.

Half an hour later I was stood by the door while my over protective mother went over the rules of walking to school- no talking to strangers no accepting lifts, no getting into trouble, cross safely by looking left and right... The list goes on. I just replied with "yes mum" "no mum" "never mum"

I wasn't paying attention at all, I was just wondering if i would like athletics or not.

Finally my mum had finished her lengthy lecture on my safety but, mum, as usual took it to the next level.
"Bye honey, remember what I said earlier, and remember you have for athletics club after, and I will pick you up at five." I held my breath hoping to leave the house after my mums talk.
"Oh Ash before you go"
I let it my held breath in exasperation "yes mum" I plastered a fake smile on my face, determined to to let my feelings show.
"Enjoy your first day being a year 5" mum said hugging me tight.
"Sure, cause I will, bye"
I shut the front door hastily before my mum made me late for school.
Geez, I love my mum and all but really, did she need to go on and on?
Can't wait to try athletics later!
