Chapter 13: I don't like butterflies

"Corey." Someone was shaking me.

I ignored them and kept my eyes shut trying to fall back asleep.

"Corey. Wake up." I opened my eyes. I turned my head and saw Aiden looking at me. "Come on we're here, and I gotta pee." I looked the other way and saw we were in the school parking lot.

"Okay. Come on." My second voice came out. We both got out the car and Aiden locked it as we made our way to the front entrance. We opened the front doors and made our way into the school.

"Alright, I'll meet you back here okay?" Aiden asked me. I nodded my head and we headed in different directions. As I came to the hallway, I saw someone at their locker that wasn't far from mine.

Was that......

"Peyton?" He turned his head and and looked at me.

"Corey, what are you doing here?" He asked while making his way to me.

"I came to get something from my locker." I told him.

"Okay.......oh I finished that painting I was talking about. You want to see it?" He asked me excitedly.

I smiled at his anxiousness. "Sure, let me just grab my stuff. I went to my locker and got two books that I had to read for English. I walked back to Peyton and told him, "Let's go."

I followed him all the way to the art room which was in the basement. To get to the basement, there is a metal door that you have to go through to get to the stairs that led you there. I carefully made my way down the stairs still following Peyton. We walked towards the art room, and opened the door.

"There it is." Peyton made his way over to a canvas and when I saw it my eyes widened.

It was a sketch of a butterfly. It rested on top of a flower. Peyton really had a talent, it was beautiful.

"This is incredible. Did you really draw this?" I asked in disbelief. He chuckled.

"Yeah." I couldn't stop looking at it. The drawing looked so real it was almost like a photograph. "You know why I drew it?" He asked me; both of us not looking away from the picture. "Butterflies are a distraction from everything else around you. You could be anywhere doing anything, but when you lay your eyes on a butterfly, you can't look away." I never really thought about, but he was right. Ironic because I was scared of butterflies. That's funny.

I turned towards Peyton. "Butterflies are different to people. The reason why people can't look away is that some people are intrigued, amazed, or just because of the beauty it shows." He turned towards me. "Kind of like you." He smiled at the end of his sentence.

I couldn't stop myself from blushing as I looked down to the floor. Anytime Peyton gave me compliments, I blushed. He made me feel like I'm doing something right and that I have a purpose, that I was something to somebody.

I felt Peyton's hand under my chin and he brought my face up to look at him. My face grew hot and body went stiff.

"It's true. Anytime I lay my eyes on you, I can't look away. I'm intrigued onto what going on In that little head of yours." His eyes were directly on mine, not looking away. "I'm amazed of what your capable of doing to me. You drive me insane just thinking about you. And your beautiful. Thats the main reason why I can't look away." His hand was still under my chin and he was still looking at me. "You're my butterfly." He whispered.

Oh my God....

"Peyton, I don't know what to say...." He just smiled and continued to stare into my eyes.
