*Paul's POV*
When Laura hit the floor, Paul's heart stopped. He immediately stands up and cradles her limp body in his arms. Her head rolls into his chest and he picks her up bridal style. Paul looks at the teacher and he nods his head, excusing them from class. People walking down the hall give Paul strange looks, but Paul doesn't care. All he cares about is his Laura and making sure that she is ok. Her body was burning up and that makes Paul very worried. He leaves the school and carefully places Laura in his pickup. Once they were moving, Paul call Sam on his cell phone. It rang and rang, then Sam picks up.
     "Hello?" he answers.
"Sam," Paul sighs in relief that he picked up. "It's Laura." Sam must have heard the worry in Paul's voice.
"Calm down," he counsels him. "What happened?"
"I think she is gonna shift," Paul states. Sam is silent which makes Paul worry even more.
"Take her to my place," Sam urges. "Tell Emily all about it." Paul nods his head, even though Sam couldn't see it, and sped to the house.
"I'm sorry Laura," Paul mutters. "I didn't catch you. I wasn't there when you needed me." He glances at Laura's unconscious form, her beautiful hair falling over her shoulder. The truck skids into Sam's driveway and Paul quickly turns the truck off. He picked Laura up and carried her into the house.
"Emily!" Paul shouts. Sam's fiance appears around a corner and sees Laura's limp form in Paul's arms.
"Bring her in here," she suggests and leads him to a small guest room. There was a full sized bed with a small bedside table next to it. Paul carefully laid Laura on the bed, then sits next to her. He gently strokes her face, still burning hot. Emily brings some water and places it on the table. After she leaves, Paul lies down facing Laura and pulls her to his body. Laura groans in pain and her body tenses. Paul knows how painful the transformation is and he wishes that his Laura wouldn't have to go through that agony. Sweat drips down Laura's forehead and she groans again. Paul simply holds her tightly, trying to comfort her. He hears wolves howling, calling him, but he ignores them. The only thing that matters to him right now is being with his mate. Laura starts moving around and mumbling incoherently, but one word is repeated over and over.
"Paul," Laura whimpers. "Paul...Paul...Paul." Paul holds her tighter as Laura moves her head onto his chest. He whispers soft nothings into her ear.
"I'm here Laura," he assures her. "I will always be here." Her body relaxes slightly and she cuddles even closer to Paul.

"Paul?" she wakes up after about 3 hours. Paul rubs her shoulder with his thumb and kisses her forehead.
     "Yes?" he responds.
"Everything hurts," she mumbles. "My head is pounding." Paul takes a deep breath and pulls her onto his chest.
"I know baby," he comforts her. "It will pass though." Laura moans in pain, tears streaking down her cheeks.
"It feels like my bones are on fire," Laura informs him. "They hurt so bad." Paul heart breaks and he wishes that he could take all of her pain away. "I'm cold," Laura states and he slides off the bed. Paul grabs a soft blanket and lays it over Laura. He then lies next to her again and holds her close. Laura moves into his body, enjoying his warmth.
"Do you need anything else?" he asks her gently. Laura shakes her head and falls asleep with her head on Paul's chest. Paul brushes her hair out of her face and kisses her cheek.
"Paul," Sam's voice calls. "Come out here." Paul rolls his eyes and sighs, but moves Laura off of him and carefully gets off the bed. He shuts the door behind him and walks into the kitchen.
     "What?" he demands
"Paul calm down," Sam cautions. "I know that Laura needs you, but the leech was spotted on our territory this morning." Paul growls and runs his hands through his hair.
"Ok," he sighs. "Let's get this over with." Sam nods and they jog out of the house. Paul looks back once, then shifts. He sniffs the air and follows Sam's black form.
Welcome back Lover Boy, Seth teases.
Shut up, Paul growls and snaps at the young wolf.
Not now, Sam commands. They meet the rest of the pack in a meadow, but before anyone could say anything else, the smell of a vampire crosses their path. Jared smells it first and takes off, Paul and Jacob hot on his heels. A redheaded woman is just ahead and Paul snarls, sprinting harder. He runs up a rock and jumps off the edge, aiming for her head. Victoria dodges but barely, turning around and roundhouse kicking Paul in the jaw. He stumbles and falls with a grunt. The other wolves pass him with ease and chase the leech.
Cut her off! Sam commands. Don't let her cross the border. Paul jumps up and speeds to the border. Before he gets there, he sees his pack fighting Victoria to his left. He speeds past them and stops on the borderline. Paul watches the trees for any movement.
I lost her, Jacob growls and Paul tenses, preparing for an ambush. A flash of movement catches his eye and he watches the trees again. Something slams into his right side, sending Paul flying into a large boulder. Paul felt maybe 3 ribs crack and he can't stand on his left front leg. The leech speeds towards him and Paul growls at her. She smirks and punches him down to the ground.
"Poor doggy," she boasts. "Do you have a booboo?" She reaches down and touches Paul's shoulder. He tries to bite her hand, but she moves her hand fast and dislocates his shoulder. Paul howls in pain and tries to fight back, but can't stand for very long. Victoria reaches for him again, but a blur of silver shoves her away. Paul looks at the new wolf. She was a beautiful, light silver color. The tips of her ears and her nose were stark black. Victoria stood in front of the silver wolf, but the wolf bared her fangs and stood her ground, between Victoria and Paul. The rest of the pack appear and start snarling at the vampire. Victoria flees across the border, leaving the wolves alone. Paul tries to stand, but can't. The silver wolf pads over to him and helps him stand.
Laura? Paul questions the wolf.
