Laura wakes up to a loud snoring sound. She opens her eyes to see Paul's mouth hanging open, one of his arms around her waist. Once she was safe in Paul's arms, the nightmares stopped. Laura didn't dream at all last night. Paul shifts and pulls Laura tighter against him. His gorgeous brown eyes open and he smiles when he sees her.
"Good morning beautiful," he whispers, his voice raspy with sleep. Laura blushes and moves away from him, burying her face into her pillow.
"Good morning," Laura's voice is muffled by her pillow. Paul chuckles and pulls Laura to him. Laura meets his eyes and he rests his forehead against hers.
"You didn't have any more nightmares," Paul notices. Laura nods and Paul moves closer to her, tilting his head towards her lips to kiss her. Laura quickly moves back, Paul giving her a weird look.
"I have morning breath," Laura explains. Paul glares playfully and crawls on top of her. He pins her arms above her head with his left hand, his right on her hip. Paul leans in close, studying her face.
"I don't care," he whispers and sends chills up Laura's spine. She blushes again and grins before Paul kisses her lips. The hand on her hip draws little circles as they kiss. Paul lets go of her hands and they wind themselves into his hair. Laura gently nibbles his bottom lip, making him groan. His fingers gently stroke her hair before resting on the bed beside her face.
There was a knock at the door and Laura paused.
"Laura?" Max's voice came through the door. Laura looks at Paul's eyes before he slides off of her.
"Yeah?" Laura answers her brother.
"Uh...mom needs to talk to you," Max informs her. Laura sighs and steals another kiss from Paul's lips. He kisses her back briefly before jumping out the window. She pulls on a sweatshirt and heads downstairs. Max looks at her before tuning and looking at their mom. Laura carefully moves into the living room and sits next to her on the couch. Anne's hair is a mess and her eyes are red and puffy. Her cheeks are wet with tears as she meets her daughter's eyes.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Laura asks quietly.
"You know Aunt Celina?" Anne asks Laura. Laura nods slowly, remembering her favorite aunt. "She and Uncle Joe were killed in a drunk driving accident last night." Laura now feels a couple of tears drip down her own cheeks. She hugs Anne and Anne hugs her back. Her only sister has just passed away. Anne sniffs and looks at Laura again.
"So Kait is coming to live with us," she tells Laura. This was happy news to Laura. Kait was one of her best friends throughout her younger life. When they were little, they were told that they were cousins. Laura remembers wondering why her and Kait had the same birthday and looked almost identical. On their 12th birthday, Anne and Celina had sat them down and told them the truth. They were really sisters. Twins to be in fact. Anne had given Kait to Celina because they had recently discovered that Celina couldn't have kids. Both Laura and Kait easily accepted the truth, but Kait stayed with Celina. Now that both Celina and Joe were dead, Anne was Kait's legal guardian. Where else would she go anyway?
"When will she get here?" Laura asks.
"Tomorrow," Anne tells her. Laura nods and there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it," Max speaks up. Laura jumps slightly at his voice, having forgotten he was there. "Laura its Paul!" Laura wraps a blanket around her mom and goes to the door. Paul's hair has tiny dew drops in it and he changed clothes from last night.
"Hey," Laura greets and folds her arms. Paul's eyebrows pull together and he steps in the house.
"What's going on?" he questions. Laura sighs and pulls him up to her room. They sit in her room on her bed, Laura's legs criss-cross applesauce. Paul sits across from her.
"My aunt died last night," Laura looks down at her hands in her lap. Paul studies her face and notices a single tear roll down her cheek. "So now my sister is gonna come live with us."
"Your sister?" Paul asks. Laura takes a deep breath and meets his eyes.
"My twin actually," Laura clarifies and Paul's eyes widen. "My aunt couldn't have kids so when me and Kait were born, my mom gave Kait to my aunt." Paul nods slowly when Laura finishes.
"That makes sense," Paul says. "Wait, if she is your twin...Does that make her a wolf too?" Laura thinks about it for a moment before shrugging her shoulders.
"I don't know," she says. Laura looks at Paul and sees that he has a soft, sad smile on his face.
"Come here," he whispers and holds his arms open. Laura climbs onto his lap, straddling his hips and melts in his arms. "Are you okay?"
"I am now that you're here," Laura murmurs into the crook of his neck. Paul chuckles and holds her tighter.
"When is your sister gonna be here?" he asks.
"Tomorrow," Laura tells him. Paul picks Laura up and clambers off the bed before setting her on her feet. She pouts at him for a moment before he pecks her lips.
"Then would you want to come over to my house?" he asks her. Laura grins and pecks his lips again.
"What would we do at your house?" Laura asks him.
"I was thinking that you could meet my dad," Paul suggests. Then he glares at her, an evil grin stretching across his lips. "Then we could watch a scary movie." Laura gives him a look and laughs once.
"Alright that works for me," Laura says. Paul kisses her lips.
"Oh I forgot to tell you," Paul remembers. "We have a meeting with the Cullen's at 3 o'clock." Laura raises her eyebrows.
"Wait," she pauses. "Does that mean I can fight?" Paul looks at her for a moment.
"Sam," he puts emphasis on the alpha's name. "Thinks that you should stay with Seth helping protect Bella since you are one of her friends and he won't let Jake do it." Laura thinks about it for a moment before nodding.
"Alright," she agrees. "It's better than nothing."
