Jacob has a wicked grin on his face.
"There are too many for you?" he asks.
"We have a few advantages dog," Jasper snarls. "It will be an even fight."
"No," Jacob argues. "It won't be even." His grin spreads wider.
"Excellent!" Alice suddenly exclaims, making Laura jump slightly. She grins at Jacob and he grins back. "Everything just disappeared of course, that's inconvenient, but I'll take it."
"We'll have to coordinate," Jake says. "It won't be easy, but its more our job than yours."
"Whoa whoa whoa," Laura steps forward. "What's going on?"
"We're going to fight in this thing," Jacob tells her triumphantly. Laura grins, but Paul pulls her closer. Bella glares at Jake and the seem to argue silently for a moment. Paul grabs Laura's waist and leads her away from the group. Laura's face was bright and excited.
"Jake can finish talking with them," Paul says and takes Laura out of the house.
"This is gonna be awesome!" Laura exclaims. Paul stops beside his truck and looks at her.
"You're no going to be anywhere near the fight," Paul informs her. Laura's face falls and she glares at him, accusation glinting in her eyes.
"Why not?" she demands. Paul opens the passenger door and helps Laura into his truck. She buckles up, but not in her usual spot by Paul. Instead she is sitting by the opposite window. Paul climbs in and starts the truck. "Why not?" Laura asks again. He just stares out the window. "Paul!"
"I don't want you to get hurt okay?!" Paul yells at her. Laura jumps at his outburst, but continues to glare at him.
"I won't get hurt!" Laura argues. "I'm just as capable as any of you...GUYS to fight."
"No you're not!"
"Yes I am!"
"No!" Paul slams his hand against the steering wheel. "You are not fighting!" Laura glares at him once more, then looks out the window.
"Take me home Paul," Laura says. She could feel his eyes on her before he puts the truck in drive and starts down the road. The drive is dead silent, the only sound is the rumbling of the engine. Laura knows why Paul doesn't want her to fight, but that doesn't mean that she won't be there. He is just afraid that Laura will be hurt. But how does he know that she will get hurt. She can do anything that her boys can do, if not do it better. Paul pulls into Laura's driveway and stops the truck. They sit together in silence for a minute before Laura unbuckles her seatbelt.
"Thanks for the ride," she says coldly and exits the truck. As she walks to the front door, Paul must have stepped out of the truck. A hand closes around her wrist, stopping her tracks.
"Laura," he mutters softly. "Be reasonable." Laura shuts her eyes and jerks her wrist out of Paul's grip.
"Good bye," Laura walks into her house.
It was snowing. It was June and it was snowing. But the snow was not the focus of Laura's worries. Wolves were fighting with vampires. One charged straight for Laura, but she wasn't fast enough to move. He wraps his arms around her wolf form and squeezes. Laura yelps when she feels several of her ribs start to crack and black spots enter her vision. She starts to lose consciousness when the pressure disappeared. Paul jumped onto the vampire, getting him off of Laura. They fought tirelessly, but soon Paul got pinned under the vampire. Laura tried to help him, but she couldn't move. The vampire started breaking Paul's bones, sickening crunches making Laura's heart break. Then the vampire put both of his hands on either side of Paul's head. He violently jerks Paul's head and snaps his neck. Paul's body flops limply to the ground and the vampire turns to Laura. He opens his mouth and charges at her.
Laura wakes up screaming, sweat covering her body. Tears streak down her cheeks and she pulls her knees up to her chest. Her breaths were ragged and irregular as she tries to calm down. Soft sobs escape her lips, her shoulders shaking up and down roughly. A shadow enters her room to her unknowing. Paul stares at Laura's shaking form before crawling onto her bed and pulling her onto his lap. Laura didn't hesitate to bury her face into his chest.
"I'm-I'm s-sorry," Laura quietly sobs. Paul holds her close and runs his fingers through her messy, dark hair.
"For what darling?" Paul asks.
"F-for arguing with y-you earlier," Laura sobs. "A-and not li-listening."
"Oh baby," Paul kisses the top of her head. "It's okay." Laura continues to cry into Paul's shoulder and he just holds her tighter.
"Laura look at me," Paul suggests. Laura just buries her face deeper into his chest. Paul rolls his eyes and gently puts his finger under her chin. He slowly lifts her head up and looks into her stunning brown eyes. "Everything I do, I do because I love you." Laura sniffs and wipes a tear from her cheek.
"I know," she whispers. "And I was wrong to argue with you. I'm sorry. You're ri-" Paul cuts her off by touching his lips to hers. Laura relaxes into his arms and kisses him back. He moves his hands to her lower back, trapping Laura against his body.
"Don't worry about it," Paul murmurs against her lips. "I love you and that's never gonna change." He then pushes her down onto her pillow. "Now sleep," he commands her. Paul turns to leave but is stopped by a hand on his arm.
"Please stay," Laura muses quietly. Paul smiles and climbs into the sheets with her. Laura curls into his chest and he wraps his arms around her, falling asleep almost immediately.
