Having already parked, Cherie and I walked towards the entrance to Tantra, a few smokers standing outside and music audible already. The car was parked in the street behind us, and I walked with as much confidence as I could muster over to the big bouncer clad in black in front of the entrance. I remembered him from when I used to come here. Toby, I think his name was. I saw him smile and recognize me as I approached.
"Hey, hon. You go right on in." He waved me and Cherie forward without question. Cherie flashed me a bewildered look, confused. I always tried to be on bouncer's good sides. It comes in handy. Toby used to help me and my friends out when the night got tough or if a fight broke out.
Cherie leaned close as we walked into the pulsating, dark room. "Did you know him or something?"
I laughed, trying to play it off. "Nah. Guess you were right about the leather shorts, huh? Maybe we won't have to pay for our drinks!"
She laughed in response, facing forward again as we both walked towards the bar. I glanced around the room. The air was thick and heavy, warmer than the muggy air outside. Colored lights spun across the dance floor, filled with men and women, dancing in groups or pairs, grinding against eachother, drinks dangling from their fingers. They were all young, most of them likely sporting fake identification to earn their way in. Tantra catered almost exclusively to the underage crowd; by turning a blind eye to them, they made good business-although dirty it might be. It was only a matter of time before they went out of business due to being caught serving minors. Various stages of drunkeness could be seen in everyone. I smiled, loving the feeling of everyone enjoying themselves around me. Familiarity surrounded me, and I slid in a barseat confidently next to Cherie, leaning forward onto the bar while the bartender glanced at us expectantly, polishing a glass in his hand.
"Two shots of Bacardi, please?" Cherie requested.
The bartender nodded, setting the small glasses in front of us. I picked up the glass of clear alcohol from the shiny black bartop, lit with blue lights. The glass sparkled under the lighting in the dark club. I rotated my chair to face Cherie, and she grinned at the excitement on my face. Her eyes were sparkling, too. We held up our glasses toward each other.
"To...getting out of the house?" Cherie offered.
I rolled my eyes, bringing the glass to my lips and throwing the bitter, burning liquid back. I swallowed it all, blinking and letting out a breath. I set the glass next to Cherie's with a clack, and they were whisked away by the bartender.
"Two more, please!" Cherie requested to the bartender. We threw them both back, Cherie biting her lip in excitement as we both stood.
"You ready?" she asked.
"Of course!" I laughed. The rum warmed me from my lips to my stomach, and excitement for the night surged through me with it. I grabbed her by the arm and brought us both to the dance floor, finding a spot before I could talk myself out of it. Tonight was about enjoying myself. Enjoying myself with Cherie.
We turned to face eachother, grins stretched across our faces, moving our hips and arms to the beat of the music. A DJ could be seen on the other side of the floor, bobbing his head while working his setup and holding the headphones to his ear. The clubbers loved it; groups of friends and couples packed tightly in the full club were bouncing and swaying, grinding their bodies rhythmically to the music, blaring loud in time with the flashing lights across the dark room. Laughing and talking could barely be heard. The long bar was full of people, and tables in a corner of the room were full of people, talking over their drinks, piling on the table. People could still be seen arriving at the front entrance.
