I've always loved how she exaggerated the role that her name gave her. The sweet smell of cherries that breezed over me whenever we got close. The bright red lipstick she was rarely without. The lingering sweet cherry-vanilla taste it left on my lips when she kissed me. Her smooth, snowy skin was contrasted sharply by her long and wavy hair, a brighter red than blood.
Cherie was a mystery wrapped an enigma. She was the type of character that only seemed to make sense in dreams, but she was real. I'm sure that everyone who met her wondered if they had imagined her, at one point. She had done a brilliant job of hiding her true self. Her true self, may I add, I worked hard to find. Getting to know the real Cherie was undoubtably the best decision I've made, and was an experience I will never let go of.
Cherie had a way of leaving a trail of her essence wherever she went. I've always loved how it followed her. Small smears of red lipstick on her pillow or my sheets. How it stuck perfectly on the rims of the cups she drank from. When she left a kiss of it on my car window, pressing her palms to the glass and leaning in to touch it to her lips. I remember how she pulled away, looking at it and giggling before stepping back, removing her hands from the glass and waving. Small moments where she didn't censor herself in her acts. She put on a show of being a very impeccable person who would never leave someone a playful kiss on their car, but the closer you got to her, the more you realized that she was not that way at all.
Meeting her, knowing her, falling in love with her. She was a mystery I just had to solve, a treasure I just had to find. I think I knew the very day I met her that I wanted to get closer to her and figure out that mysterious girl. Her tragic personality, saving her from falling apart as a result of hiding herself for so long. Giving her the warmth that she didn't know she needed. She had isolated herself for so long, and every time I broke through another wall of hers I could see it happen like a dam splitting apart. She was in desperate need of being helped, saved from herself. I can't believe it took so long for someone to see her, really see her, but I'm glad it was me.
My love for my dear Cherie I suspect will never truly fade. No matter what happens from now on, I will always feel something for her. She's not the type of person you can forget. I lived for her moments of imperfection, showing who she really was and becoming more common the longer I was with her. I loved Cherie, and I still do. I loved her for her character, her personality and her name. Her sweet smell, red lips, cherry hair and ethereal spirit.
