Chapter Nineteen: "The people of the jury find Benjamin Berk..."
After the two hour break and eating lunch, we were back in the court room. I was extremely anxious and kept bouncing my leg up and down.
Alicia was gnawing at her lip and Mr. Eisenhower reeked of confidence. He looked over at us and smiled. "Everything will be fine. We had solid proof. Just you watch."
Alicia and I nodded, though not entirely convinced.
"All rise for the honourable Judge John Turpin." We all stood like before and again, he had us sit down.
"We have returned back to my court room to hear the verdict." He looked over at the jury and a man stood.
"The ladies and gentlemen of the jury find Benjamin Berk guilty of domestic violence and sexual harassment." He spoke strong, like he was proud of what he'd said.
"Very well. I give Benjamin Berk sixty five years to life, no bail." He hit his gavel and Alicia jumped slightly. "Court is closed. You may now leave." He rose and left and I looked down at Alicia smiling.
"We did it."
She smiled brightly and pulled me into a hug. Everyone in the jury clapped and smiled, making me blush.
Ben was dragged away in cuffs and I knew Alicia was finally safe.
"What did I say?" Mr. Eisenhower teased and Alicia turned to him. She bit her lip and held out a shaky hand.
"T-thank you so much." He shook her hand lightly and smiled.
"All in a days work. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm starved." He locked his suitcase and waved goodbye, walking out of the courtroom.
Alicia mumbled something and I furrowed my eyebrows. "What did you say?"
"I'm finally free..." She smiled, happy tears rolling down her face.
I've never been happier to see her smile.
(A/N: To be completely honest with you, I had NO idea what I was writing during the trial scenes. haha! I went by what I saw in movies. :P How'd I do??? until the next chappy, babies xx)
