"What?" I heard what he said I just want to hear it again, louder. "Abbie is my girlfriend, but Lil, don't go running after her, I don't think she's the same girl you knew." I blow him off. "Ethan, where is she?" I started to climb out of the water and Ethan grabs my arm. "Ouch,Ethan, let go!" I start to rub my arm. "Sorry Lil." I walk to the car with Ethan running after me. He grabs my waist and forces me to turn around.
"Look at me Lil, she's not who you think she is." I'm angry with him, he doesn't know her the way I do! "Leave me alone Ethan!" I push him off me. I start walking to my house which isn't far from the beach. "Hey Lil," his car pulls up beside me. "If you're mad at me, you don't have to talk, just let me give you a ride Lillian." I get in on the passenger side and turn to face the opposite way of Ethan.
A loud sigh comes from Ethan as he places his hand on my shoulder. "Lil, can you please look at me." I turn and suddenly he embraces me in a hug. "I'm sorry Lil, I know we've only met today but I feel as if I've known you forever." He lets me go and he starts to drive, I'm guessing to Abigail's house.
After about 10 minutes we come to a house that's pretty big. The paint on the house looks new. "Lil, Lil!" Ethan interrupts me from my thoughts. "Oh sorry." I give him a sheepish smile. "Come on Lil, we're at Abigail's house." I run to the front door with Ethan right behind me. I knock on the door, and the door opens. Then I see Abbie.
"Oh my gosh, Abbie it's you!" I squeal hugging her. "Um, do I know you?" She pushes me off her and I fall back but Ethan catches me, again. "Yea Abbie, it's me, Lillian Dews your best friend since third grade." She looks me up and down. "Sorry new girl, I don't remember." She starts heading back inside. "Abbie wait." I grab her wrist. "Look at this photo." I show her a photo of me, Anthony,Cecile, and Abbie the day she left, on my phone. A mad expression crosses her face. She throws my phone to the ground, making it break and storms back inside.
I stand there confused, sad, and angry at what just happened. "I hate to say this but, I told you so." Ethan holds me and I let tears fall that I didn't even know were there. "Come on, I'll buy you a new phone ok." He pulls me away from him and looks me in the eyes. It's like his beautiful blue ones are looking in my soul. I nod and he carries me to his car.
The whole time he's driving to his house, I stay cuddled on his lap and my head burrowed in his chest. "We're here Lil." He turns the engine off and we both step out. I look to my driveway and my parents aren't home. "Hey Ethan, is it alright if I stay at your house until my parents come home?" I hate being home alone. "Sure." We walk inside and my breath is taken away. "Ethan, your house is beautiful." I step on the hardwood floor walking further in the amazing house. "Why thank you, have a seat on the couch." I sit down as Ethan walks off into what I assume to be the kitchen. I hear him humming a song and cutting something. I'm curious,so I walk in. "What you up to?" I ask as I walk into the kitchen. "Oh just making dinner for two." I blush, but he can't see me. I walk closer to him and watch him. "Hey Lil, there's snacks in the pantry and fridge if your hungry now." I walk to the fridge and I feel Ethan's body rub against me and his body warms me for a second, then it's gone. "Sorry, I came to get a bottle of water." He grabs the water then goes back to where he was. I grab an applesauce and sit back down on the cream leather couch. "Hey Lil, foods done." He comes out with two plates that have grilled chicken, rice, and chopped veggies on them.
"Yum, smells good." I grab my plate. "Yea, I'm going to college for culinary arts." He puts his arm around my waist and pulls me closer to him. "Hmm, Lil, your hair smells good." I feel my cheeks get hot. I snuggle into the crook of his neck. I can smell his cologne as I drift off.
"Lilly,Lil, wake up!" I open my eyes to see Ethan standing above me. "Where am I?" I'm laying on a bed in a unfamiliar room. "You fell asleep on me last night, so I carried you upstairs to my room and let you sleep." He smiled making shiver runs all over me
"Where'd you sleep Ethan?" I said completely sitting up now. "I slept in the guest room." He gave me a sheepish grin. "Sorry." I stretched and got out of bed. I walked into the bathroom. Ethan followed right behind me with a dog. "Who's this?" I say squatting down to pet the beautiful chocolate lab behind the ears.
"This is Finley." Ethan said coming down beside me. "What time is it?" I say walking out the bathroom with Finley hot on my heels like a service dog watching my every move. "Um it's 9:15." Shit. "Um I gotta go, every Sunday at 10:00 we go to a brunch. Thank you Ethan." I run out the door and to my house. "Hey mom, hi dad." I kiss them both as I come in.
I take out a floral maxi dress with 3in wedges, my black hand bag and run downstairs. I get in the car, and we drive to some 50's style diner.
When were seated, I get a text from Cecile. "Hey girl, we miss you like crazy. How's Abbie?" I can't tell her about what Abbie has become so I simply put, "Fine." I looking down at my new old phone, (Ethan gave me his dads old Samsung Galaxy 4s.) when slid into the empty seat beside me.
"Who are you texting?" I look up and see Ethan sitting there. "Um my friend from back home." That's when the unbelievable happens.
