The Forgotten

Chapter 5:"Welcome back to reality."

RILEY POV

Frozen.

My body is completely frozen.

I can't open my mouth, arms, or legs.

I'm just standing there.

Looking at the school.

Not moving at all.

About 3 days have passed and it was decided that I was ready to go back to school. I wasn't completely healed, but I was good enough to go back. Just as long I take my medication and leave 5 minutes before class ends so I wouldn't be at risk of falling or getting hurt. Seems reasonable, but even though everyone else was ready to get back to their normal routine, I'm not. I don't feel normal and I haven't felt normal since the accident.

Ever since I woke in the hospital bed, I've had this pit in my stomach. Could've been because I couldn't remember anything. The only thing I remember was walking into the school before everything went blank. The only difference is that my stomach is turning more than before. I don't know what I could encounter coming back here. I don't know how I left things off with everyone. If everyone was ready for me to come back. I'm probably over exaggerating, but let's just say normal is the last thing I'm feeling right now.

"You ready?" Maya asked as she put her hand in my shoulder. I jumped a little since I didn't expect her to be here.

"Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you. I was just wondering why you weren't at your place for me to pick you up?" Maya asked.

I left the house before anyone was downstairs. I needed some air and sometime to think to myself. A really long walk was exactly what I needed. "I must have forgotten you were coming. Sorry. I just needed sometime to myself since everyone has been around me for the past week." I explained.

"Riley. You know, if you ever feel like I'm smotheri-"

"You're not smothering me, Maya." I interrupted. "Just have a lot on my mind, that's all."

"Is whatever happens to be on your mind have something to do with Lucas?" Maya asked.

Before I could answer I felt someone walking towards us which made me turn my head. "Hi Lucas."

"Hey Riley. How are you feeling?" He asked.

"Perfectly fine." I replied. We looked at each other for a while. I wonder what could be going on in his head right now. Probably wondering the same thing as me.

"Well, I guess I'll leave you too alone now." Maya said walking away.

"It's okay Maya you can stay." Lucas said.

"It's fine. I jus-" Maya tried to explain before getting interrupted again.

"Hey don't leave in our watch." Farkle said behind us. We turned to see him and Smackle holding hands.

"Hey, how are the two love struck geniuses doing? Enjoying paradise I hope." Maya said.

"We are, thanks for asking." Farkle said.

"Hey Riley. I didn't expect you to be back so soon." Smackle said.

"Yeah well, I heal fast." I explained. A bit of silence came over us, which is very unusual.

"Well how about we go in." Lucas suggested.

Before anyone walked in we all looked at the school like I previously did. "Welcome back to reality." Farkle said.
