A/N Didn't read beforehand. Just wanted to update before I go on my last vacation before school starts and I'm going to be busy enjoying the last pieces of my summer.

RILEY POV

"Why is it important to tell the truth?" That question was the first thing that came out of my dads mouth when he walked in.

I look over towards my friends to see their reactions which happened to be very hard to read. All you saw was their eyes widen, the question is why?

Since no one answered I decided to answer myself since I have gone through a very similar situation, "Because other wise you'll start to feel guilty and your conscience will be eating you from the inside out."

"Really, why?" My dad asked.

I opened my mouth to respond, but that's when a familiar voice cut me off, "Because deep down you know that telling a lie is wrong." Farkle said.

"Why?" My dad repeated. What is he trying to get from this?

"Because it always ends up with someone getting hurt." Lucas answered.

I turn to see his reaction and he just kept his head down. They all did.

"Very good. So if you all know the consequences of a lie or just by not telling the truth, then why do it?" My dad asked.

"You know what? Sometimes you need to tell a little white lie every now and then. You know to spare someone's feelings or just to make sure nothing changes. I know you said that it could hurt them when you don't say anything or just the longer you wait to tell them, but what if you're just caught in a sticky situation? Don't you think it's just best to not risk anything and just keep whatever happened to yourself?" Maya said passionately to the point where she stood up with her hands in the desk.

First she left us puzzled, especially my father. This was the most she has spoken in class since I got back from the hospital. It shocked us all, but eventually my dad broke the silence. "A friendship isn't true if you have lies in it."

Maya looked taken back and stood up straight, "What did you just say?"

"A friendship that is true and real would never allow lies and secrets in it. If you're going to keep secrets, then what type of friends were you to begin with?" My dad responded.

Maya didn't say anything else. All she did was sit back in her chair with the head looking at her desk. Being her best friend I wanted to make sure she was okay so I turned my whole body towards her. I didn't listen to another word he said after that I just looked at her waiting for a nod or a glance or something.

She didn't look at me at all, not once.

It was now time for lunch and it was the regular routine of grabbing our food and sitting at the table, but this time was different. There was now tension in the air.

Usually someone would have said something by now, but no one did. I couldn't help, but look at them. Not talking. They haven't even looked up once. This isn't the same group of people that I've always known. We would talk for hours and not care if it was late. Now I feel like all they're doing is waiting for the time to fly by.

The one that concerned me the most was Maya. She hasn't said a word since History ended. All I want to know is what she was going on about in class. Why was she so passionate about this. If they are any secrets she should just tell. "What happened in there?" I asked.

Everyones head finally snapped up and turned to me. They kept looking back and forth at Maya and I. Wondering why I asked the question and why she wasn't answering. "Maya?"

"Nothing." Maya answered playing with her food.

"That didn't look like nothing to me." I said.

"Look, it's nothing to worry about so can we just drop it?" Maya said now looking up at me.

Her eyes. They looked like they were filled with guilt. They looked darker than normal. "No! Okay, I'm tired of all the secrets. Can you just tell me what you were talking about in class?"

"Riley, it's not that simple. I can't just tell you without risking you getting hurt and I don't want to do that to our friendship."

"Our friendship has survived so much, you really think whatever you tell will ruin that?"

"Yes! Because I've seen it happen before." Maya said. What?

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

"I did something that ruined our friendship. Telling you will only have me relive it and I'm not ready to go through that again." Maya said holding my hands and looking straight at me.

I just sat there processing everything she said to me. Did our friendship really break away that easily? It's only been less than four months since school started and we already broke apart.

"I'm sorry Maya, I-I jus-" I started stuttering not knowing what to say next. "I just can't be here right now." I pulled my hands away from hers.

Just like that I grabbed my bag and ran out the cafeteria doors and the school. I just couldn't take the lies and constantly feeling clueless.

I know this was short but it's a filler for what I'm writing next. I'm going to vacation this Monday and I knew I wouldn't have time to edit this there so I uploaded it now.
So I go back to school on August 29th.
When do you guys go back or if you're already back, how is it so far?
