By the time I was changed I had officially made myself late for Phys ed with Ash. I had so far turned up late to each of his classes, he was going to think I was doing this on purpose soon. The quick step of my heels against the empty marble floors echoed down the hall ahead of me as I stopped to take a deep breath before entering the large gym.
Suddenly all eyes were turned to me.
"Late again Nean?"
"Sorry Ash. Mum made me make my uniform for sewing and I had to get changed."
"You made that?"
"Not the shoes. Or the necklace. Or the cardie. But the skirt, belt, bow and shirt yeah."
"Wow you are good. But, are you good enough to make a Phys ed uniform as well?"
"Sure am." I replied waving the large tote bag under my arm at him.
"Good. Go get changed. That goes for the rest of you as well. I want you all back here in no more than five. Were doing team bonding exercises today. It should be fun."
All the boys began to exit the room and I looked around for a girls changing room.
"Uh, Where do I get changed?"
"Oh, um. Just use my office for now. I'll talk to your dad at dinner and see what hes doing about that."
"Brill." I couldn't help but laugh at my fathers lack of preparation at my arrival.
I made the quick short steps to his office and locked myself inside. Opening the large tote I began to strip. The shorts were my favorite so far. Made from a durable black silk they hung loose around my upper thigh. Folded up cuffs and pockets larger then the seams added emphasis to the bagginess. The top, a plain fitted white razor back singlet with red seams and the school logo on the bottom left corner. Matched up with my black cardie again and a pair of silky black jiffies I had from before I quit ballet the look was perfect. I folded up my other uniform, slid it into my large tote bag and unlocked the door to join Ash in the gym. I was the first changed. Heading over to join Ash on the edge of the boxing ring he looked up to take in my new, one of a kind, Phys Ed uniform.
"Nice. You made that too?"
"Sure did."
"Looks good on you."
"Thanks."
"Uh you have a break next right."
"Sure do."
"Do you mind staying behind after class to talk. We could do a little more skill work too."
"Uh sure. About what."
It was at this point the rest of the class decided to join us.
"Tell you then,” he replied with a wink.
Ash jumped down from the edge of the ring and began instructing us on what to do.
"Okay, I'm going to pick two captains and they can pick the two teams."
"Chaster, Bazz. Get up here."
"Sure thing coach."
And the game began. Slowly Name by name very student in the class was called out. Other than me. Truthfully it kind of hurt. I had been so used to being the first one picked the entire time I was here. What was different now.
"You take her. Your the one that has one less player than me."
"You take her. Even the teams out. You have to many good players already."
