Lily's POV:
My binder slid across the floor after some dude kicked it, sending it flopping open and papers quickly flying out. Everyone in the vicinity rushed past, obviously not caring whatsoever. Shakily, I knelt down and attempted to stuff everything messily back in. Some papers were still poking out awkwardly as I slung the binder strap over my shoulder and stumbled to get all of my books in hand.
The clock was ticking down, second by second. There was no way I was going to make it to science on time; I was much too far away. My legs began to ache as I ran as fast as I physically could, while still doing a walk as not to get in trouble.
Then, the sound of a loud bell began to ring throughout the long hallways. Class had started. Again, I was late. It's not my fault though! My stride began to quicken since there was nobody in the halls besides other students rushing to class.
Struggling, I pushed open the door to class and looked around the class. Multiple pairs of eyes were staring at me, including one recognizable, vivid blue pair. It was Matthias. It was actually him. The big ears, the hipster like clothing, the eyes. My face grew even a brighter shade of red at the sight of my idol standing in the middle of my classroom.
"Lily," Mr. Turner said in a low voice. "You're late. Again."
"I-I'm sorry," I choked. "I-I got pushed in the hallway and s-someone threw my binder across the entire hallway and i-it got kicked around."
"Ha, what a loser!" David, one of the classic jocks, chuckled, kicking his feet on the table. Turner glared.
"Lily, I'm not going to count you late. David, get your legs off the table." he ordered, glancing at both of us equally. David swung his legs off of his table as I scrambled towards my seat. Nathan was already sitting there, grinning smugly. He took my binder and books and dropped them to the ground, giving me an uncomfortable smile. Ignoring him, I shakily looked towards the front.
Matthias was standing there, scrolling through something on his phone while the teacher stood up behind his desk and gave us all a death glare.
"This is our guest speaker. Treat him with the same respect you'd treat me." he announced loudly, sitting back down towards his own computer. Matthias grinned and looked back to us, which caused my face to grow bright red again.
"How's it going, guys? I am Matthias!" he exclaimed cheerfully, clasping his hands together. I grinned, knowing that was his intro. There was silence from the rest of the class. He looked around in an expecting sort of way. "No? Alright, that's cool."
Again, I couldn't stop myself from grinning. A few people had sent me awkward stares for smiling at the stupidest of things. But I couldn't help it. He was just... entertaining. That's really all I could say about.
"Nonetheless, my name is Matthias. I create videos and post them onto the website called YouTube, which I'm sure you're all familiar with." he introduced, making odd hand motions.
"What are you? The next PewDiePie?" a boy in the very back of the classroom questioned, smirking. A jolt of anger bubbled inside at the boy who had insulted my hero. Yet Matt didn't seem to perturbed about the insult.
"Actually, I talk to Felix a lot via social media, so I'm actually quite good friends with him." Matthias retorted, sliding on of his hands into his pocket. The boy's face instantaneously grew bright red as he looked down and shut up. Matt continued.
"The videos I create are mostly random; I do have a schedule for a few series', though, such as, 'Reading Your Comments,' and 'Reading Your Auto Corrects,' which people tend to enjoy." Matthias suggested, listing off the series' he did with his fingers.
"Sounds stupid. Who the hell would want to watch a guy who laughs at his own jokes?" a girl muttered, crossing her arms tightly across her chest. That was it.
"He saved lives, Jessie!" I exclaimed, spinning around to glare at the girl. Her expressionless face soon turned into extreme rage.
"He didn't do shiz!" she shot back, enraged.
"Whoa, whoa, girls, girls, don't fight, now. Come on." Matthias said quickly, holding his hands out. "It's okay if someone doesn't like me, I expected that a lot after today."
"Do you watch this idiot?" Jessie questioned, snickering.
"He saved my life! So just stop it, okay?!" I snapped, swiveling back towards the front and folding my arms across my chest. Matthias' expression suddenly softened.
"I saved your life?" he asked quietly, looking slightly shocked. My face grew bright red, suddenly freaking out. Well, there was a good reason to. My hero was right in front of me, asking about if he saved me, which he very much did. Nonetheless, it was extremely awkward.
Instead of a verbal response, I nodded, much too embarrassed to say a word. The smile on his face grew ever so slightly.
"Wow," he breathed quietly. "That's insane. Thank you for watching; I'm glad I could help." Before I knew it, I could feel tears beginning to stream onto my already bright pink face. No, I didn't have to cry right now. Come on! I forced my head down so he didn't have to see me.
Thankfully, Matthias noticed that I looked uncomfortable, so he stepped back to where he was previously standing and continued on with his presentation. He began to discuss the topic of how his channel really started to grow after winning season 2 of Internet Icon, then about moving and Luna, all of which made me happier by the moment.
Finally, he tapped his phone multiple times until a video popped onto the projector, showing the first frame to his song, Backwards. Remembering the very first time I saw this video nearly three years ago, the lyrics began to replay in my head.
"This song was my final entry into Internet Icon, in which we were supposed to symbolize what our channel was about. You'll see what I mean with the lyrics." he informed. Standing back, he pressed his phone again and the video began to play.
Every single lyric was familiar, from the chorus to verse, I knew exactly what came next. I was so incredibly obsessed with that song that I had printed out and taught myself the guitar chords.
Once the video was over, there was complete, quite disrespectful silence from the rest of the class. Not one of them even did as much as a short applause. Matt seemed to brush off the disrespect and instead just reached to play another video.
"This one was, surprisingly, one of my most popular ones. It was a challenge I did with one of my friends, Mark, called the Disney Song Challenge, in which my wife Amanda would give us the name of a Disney song and we had to come up and sing a song from that particular song as quick as we could. It was definitely a lot of fun to shoot." Matthias explained, bringing up the first frame of that video.
The video played. Every single time in the video when Matthias or Mark laughed or even smiled, I wanted to repeat that action instantly. No one else in the class did, though, which upset me.
Once the video was completed, I looked down at my watch, just to see there was about 10 minutes left of class. Frowning, I sighed. It was almost time for him to leave. The person who let me see the light in life and encouraged me to go on, was about to leave.
