The bus was actually early to campus that morning, which definitely benefitted all four of us. We stepped off of the bus and wandered towards the bus entrance of the school.
It was overwhelming, especially with being a lot shorter than the other people that I assumed to be older kids.. But it just so happened to be the Freshman orientation day.
All of us were gathered into school's auditorium and asked to take out seats so that way the opening presentation could start.
Max and I sat between Hyung and Jason, sort of as protection against any asshole that thought of messing with either one of us.
While everyone is getting settled into the seats, I spotted a familiar face within the throng of teenagers. Kat, Katherine, PM. She was one of my closest friends when I was younger until I had to move away in Middle school when my mom finally left her ex. Even though he was my father, biologically, he means nothing to me after what he had done to us for many years..
Katherine helped me through that, and I'm glad she was there for me. It gave me a little bit of heaven despite living in hell, and I had something in life to actually look forwards to and enjoy being around her. I'm forever grateful for that, and in turn, I'd do just about anything that I can to repay her. It only feels right.
Katherine was tall, perhaps taller than most girls her age. She was probably about a head taller than me and she had a slender build. Today she had her hair down, and the waves in it perfectly caressed the sides of her face and her shoulders. It was a soft brown, a light caramel color that seemed to its own lightness to it. Katherine had the most beautiful eyes of anyone that I knew. They were happy, playful and kind, and unique. Her eyes were a light hazel that occasionally shifted in color, sometimes more green and other times more brown, but every time I've looked her in the eyes, I've always seen them to be full of joy and radiance. She wore a pair of blue jeans and a flowy, off white shirt that hung on her shoulders and draped down her arms. Her shoes were a pair of yellow vans. Here was something sparkly around her neck, a small, gold necklace. The pendant on it was a small sharks tooth.
It was a present that I had gotten for her on her birthday, and I didn't have enough money to get something sparkly to put on the necklace, so I got her a shark's tooth because I always regarded it as a good luck charm, and I wanted her to have something that I thought was special.. But I was scared about giving it to her, I was worried that she wouldn't like the shark tooth on the gold necklace because it would look weird or not girly. Katherine loved the necklace and told me that it was special because I said the tooth was meant for good luck. She's worn it ever since I gave it to her, and it's the same necklace that she's wearing now.
I tried to wave over at her, but she disappeared, probably because she finally found a seat. I'd have to talk to her later and catch up.. I wonder how she's been doing over the last two years.
