'Lacey Smith? Wasn't she the girl that disappeared a couple of years ago?' A tear fell from Melissa's eye and that's when I realised, the expression in her eyes represented hurt and loss. The same expression I thought was behind the eyes of Tom, but now I knew I was wrong. 'Yes, she was.' Melissa sniffled. 'She stayed with us for a short time and fitted in extremely well amongst the family. She cooked, cleaned and helped me out whenever I needed assistance in the garden.' 'Tom particularly grew fond of her and he doesn't often form a attachment to people. He was the last one to see her before she disappeared and since then I'm afraid he hasn't been the same.' My stomach turned itself inside out and then it hit me, the exact same feeling I got around Tom, as if he was in the car with us. Haunting me. I shivered in disbelief. Did Tom kill Lacey? 'The police searched for her body for months but didn't find any trace of her. The funeral was a year and a half later, her tomb stone is at the local cemetery here.' 'Melissa, I'm sorry.' She smiled politely and didn't speak again until we arrived home. 'Sweetie, we're home!' She shouted as she placed my bags with the clothes and pair of shoes I brought today in the living room. 'Melissa, hi.' Tom greeted us. 'You two had a nice day?' Melissa wiped her eyes again. 'Yes, it was great. Rebecca brought some new clothes for school and I'm going to pick up the remainder of her books for school in the morning.' 'Great!' Tom replied. 'Glad to hear it.' I smiled and managed to squeeze past Tom before heading up stairs. 'Rebecca' Tom called. 'Yes?' 'You forgot your clothes' He said. 'Oh, thanks' 'Your welcome.' This was the most he'd said to me my whole time here. What was going on with him? I carried my bags up stairs, collected my toiletries and went to the bathroom to freshen myself up. Afterwards, I went to my room to change into more comfortable clothes before heading down stairs for dinner. That's when I head a enormous bang and then a thud like something had fallen down the stairs. 'REBECCA!' Melissa screamed 'COME QUICK!' I sprinted down stairs and gasped as I said the body of Tom laying in the kitchen. 'CALL 911!' I snatched the phone and dialed the number, I then waited as it continued to ring. '911, what's your emergency?'
