My stomach turned and I suddenly froze. Besides the fact that Lacey was Melissa and Michael's foster child, why would they have kept her journal? Wouldn't they have handed it into the police and it be used as evidence to look into her disappearance? This was very strange. All of a sudden, I hear the door open and Melissa call out to me. 'Shit' I say under my breath and quickly stash the box away out of sight. 'Rebecca?' She says again. 'Coming!' I yell back. I quietly run to the door and shut it behind me, but by then.. it's too late, Melissa was standing behind me with her hands on her hips. 'What do you think you're doing?' She asked. 'You know your not allowed to be in Michael's and my room, it's off limits.' 'I know' I said guiltily and kicked at the floor. 'I woke up and you were gone so I tried calling you but you didn't answer your cell, I thought maybe you'd left it up in your room so I had a look to see if I could figure out where you'd gone but didn't find anything. I'm really sorry.' Melissa assessed me for a moment, trying to figure out the truth behind my lie. But after a brief moment, she simply brushed it off and apologised for her departure. 'That's alright.' I said. 'Were you by any chance visiting Michael?' 'Yes, in a matter of fact I was. His feeling much better, the doctors think he'll be a good as new and able to come home in a few weeks or so.' She smiled sweetly. 'Do they know what happened to him?' Melissa then grew quiet and I could see she was trying to pick her words wisely. 'Unfortunately they don't have that information yet, but as soon as I hear anything I promise I'll let you know.' 'No worries, I'm just a tad worried about him.' I responded. 'Yes, me too.' 'Anyway. Would you like to come downstairs and help me get dinner started?' She asked. 'Yes, of course. I just have to finish packing my bag for tomorrow, I'll be down in a minute.' 'Of course, take your time.' She said and disappeared down the hall. 'Weird.' I said to myself again and quickly ran to my room and hid Lacey's diary in a place neither Melissa or Michael would look. For dinner we cooked spaghetti bolognese and heated up some garlic bread in the oven, it was delicious. I actually caught myself by surprise on how hungry I'd been and after tea, grew quite tired. 'Oh my gosh, I'm actually exhausted.' I yawned as I told Melissa. 'It was a big day for both of us.' She said. 'How about we both have a early night and see if your feeling up to going to school in the morning?' 'That sounds like a good idea.' I said. 'Will you be alright to sleep tonight?' 'No need to worry about me sweetie, I'll be alright.' 'You head off and I'll see you tomorrow.' 'Ok, well goodnight.' I called. 'Goodnight.' She responded.
