Chapter 1: Settling Down

Luna's P.O.V

I sit in the cockpit of the Ghost, a small bounty like ship owned by Hera Syndulla daughter of Cham Syndulla leader of the Twi'lek Resistance on Ryloth, staring out into deep space. Only an hour ago I'd been brought here on this ship with a group of six rebels to hide from the Empire and from my traitor brother. Merely three days ago I had been at home on Tatooine with my parents and a rebel droid happy but slightly worried about our safety. And now? My mother rests dead with a blast to the heart the only indication that she's dead and not asleep. My father lays face down in the sands of Tatooine a thin black hole running through him. My brother resting happily on an Imperial Star Destroyer somewhere in the Outer Rim near Tatooine. And me? Locked away on a rebel ship doomed to never see any sign of my childhood home ever again.

I close my eyes as a tear escapes my right eye slowly and silently making its way down my cheek. All I can feel is pain, anger, betrayal, sadness, worry, fear, and oddly happiness. Happiness to finally be free of Tatooine's extreme heats and rough sands. I look down at my lap my hands linked together tightly. Ahsoka Tano, a old Jedi friend of my parents, had come and saved me from the Empire at the last minute leading me to a rebel fleet that she had been apart of for some time. After being assured that I was merely going through shock and not severely hurt after my encounter with the Imperials she contacted this rebel group to take me in.

The door behind me opens but I do nothing but look up and out the window raising my chin and sitting up straight as my mother had taught me while growing up to show I want nothing more and nothing less than respect. "Hey." I hear a low voice say softly. I turn around to see a tall teen with blueish black haired and blue eyes standing behind me.

I relax and offer a small smile to show I won't be hostile like I'd been for the past three days. "Hi."

The boy walks over to the pilot seat and sits down carefully making sure not to touch anything as if he does the whole ship will explode or perhaps the pilot might. "I know this may not be the time but it might help. Hi I'm Ezra, Ezra Bridger." He says sticking his hand out.

I smile a little before I take his hand in mine firmly. "Hi Ezra I'm Luna, Luna Stevenson. It's nice to meet you."

Ezra smiles at me as I release his hand and turn back to the stars. "Isn't it amazing?" He asks and I laugh.

"Yeah and I thought I had a great view on Tatooine." I tell him and he turns to me.

"Wait a minute! Your from Tatooine?!" He asks me and I laugh.

"Yes I am." I answer softly.

"What's it like?" He asks and I laugh at the amount of curiosity in his eyes making the shine with life.

"You mean other than excruciatingly hot, right?" I ask sarcastically.

He laughs and starts to bounce in his seat. "Yes!"

I stop a second and think over everything before I speak. "It's almost always extremely hot but whenever it's not as hot as usual it's actually nice there sometimes we'll get some wind but that usually ends up turning into a sandstorm. Some of the people can be scumbags and jerks but when it comes to pod racing that's when things interesting. Used to when I was younger my father would take me to pod races and explain to me what pod could do what and why they all look different. My job was to find, repair, and then sell old droids so one day when an old racing pod was left to my boss and I just couldn't help myself so I fix it up and work up to save the credits needed to buy it." I explain excitedly. "I entered in a pod race once." I admit happily.
