Chapter 3: First rebel mission codename: Bust

Luna's P.O.V

Its been a week since I joined the crew of the Ghost and things have been mostly quiet. I helped Hera fix the Ghost as needed my dealings with droids coming in handy away from work for the first time in my life. I discovered that Ezra, being the smallest, has access to the vents and crawls through the vents on the ship to scare people.

I sit on the roof of the Ghost as Hera flies us to a contacts location where, hopefully, we'll get information on somewhere to get supplies from the Empire. I hear someone behind me but I don't turn around.

"Good morning Lord Ponytail." I call out over my shoulder.

"Good morning Jack Rabbit." Kanan says and I smile. Kanan and begun to train me the day before yesterday and was surprised by my running speed so he decided to name me Jack Rabbit.

"So what's up?" I ask him as he sits down next to me.

He sighs before he speaks. "Look Luna don't get the wrong idea when I say this but you're gonna have to stay here with Hera while we're on the mission." He explains.

"What?!" I yell my head turning to him.

"Look we don't think you can't handle it we just don't want you to go on this mission because Vissago is unpredictable and most of his missions end with one of us getting hurt. We don't want you first mission with us to be on an unpredictable and dangerous one. We trust you we just don't trust Vissago... not comepletely." He tells me and I sloutch where I sit but I nod my head.

"I understand." I whisper and he sighs.

"I want to take you kid I just don't want to risk you falling into the Empire's hands." He explains and I nod my head.

"Next time right?" I ask and he chuckles.

"Yes Jack Rabbit next time." He says and I laugh.

"Okay then I feel a little better." I admit.

"I promise." He says and a smile forces its way onto my face.

"Now I feel much better." I tell him.

"I thought you would." He admits shaking his head a little. I smile up at him. He gets up as the Ghost begins to descend through the clouds. "Good luck." I call over my shoulder as he walks away.

He laughs before he calls back. "Thanks we're gonna need it."

I watch Kanan and the others walk away from the Ghost till I can't see them then I go in. I head to the cockpit and see Hera sitting in the pilot seat. "I thought you would sneak out after them to be honest." Hera says not even looking at me.

"No I don't want to be a problem and from as much worry that was coming off of Lord Ponytail I think he has enough to handle." I admit but I can't hide my disappointment.

"You'll get to go on the next one." She assures me and I nod my head before I sit down in Kanan's seat.

"So this Vassago guy what's up with him?" I ask Hera and she sighs before she turns to me a frown on her gentle green face.

"Vassago is a questionable contact of ours we only go to when we absolutely have to." She explains.

"Why do you need to go to him now?" I push and she shakes her head her Lekku moving back and forth.

"We're low on credits and on fuel so to keep the Ghost up and not have to drain the fleets supplies we find our own suppliers and the Empire happens to be a very good one but we don't always have the intel on where what we want is that's when we need Vassago. The deal is we steal food, fuel, and blasters and give the food to the needy, we keep the fuel, and Vassago gets the blasters." She explains. "The credits we get from Vassago are usually good but his jobs are always risky and very shady." She points out and I nod my head as she turns back to the Ghosts controls. I lower my head as I think over everything she said till I jump up and run out of the cockpit to my room and I pull out my bag. I quickly rummage through my bag and hear Hera enters my room behind me as I pull out a large heavy pouch bigger than my two hands put together as fists. I turn back to Hera and shove the pouch into her hands.

"It's a pouch of credits. My parents had me pack a bag with things I would absolutly need if the Empire attacked home and we needed to get away quickly." I explain and she nods her head.

"Thank you Luna this will help us a lot." She tells me a large smile on her face.

"I know it will. You guys took me in and I should start paying you all back." I tell her.

"You don't owe us anything." She says as she puts one of her hands on my shoulder. I nod my head and she leaves heading back to the cockpit. I turn back to my bag and quickly zip it and throw it back onto my bed before I head back to the cockpit. When I enter the cockpit Hera's not there but I can hear everyone down stairs so I walk over to the ladder and head down. When I reach the bottom Hera's explaining that I gave them credits. Kanan looks calm as he stands in front of Hera his arms crossed over his chest but through the force I can tell his angry about something. When Hera's done no one speaks but I know something is wrong.

"Love what's wrong?" Hera asks Kanan and he shakes his head angrily as his eyes narrow at the ground.

"Vassago set us up." Kanan growls.

Hera steps back her eyes widen in shock at the dark tone that comes from him. "Love?" Hera asks as I look around looking everyone over. I look at Ezra to see him holding his shoulder a wince crossing his face as he shifts.

"He sold us out to the Empire Hera." Kanan snaps.

"A Jedi does not let his anger cloud his judgement." I recite before I walk over to Ezra. "Sit." Is all I say as I point at a crate near him. He doesn't object he just sits down and lets me look at his arm.

Kanan explains what happened a little bit calmer than before as I ask Ezra to remove his shirt. I finish wrapping his arm by the time Kanan is done explaining and I feel everyone's eyes on me. "What's the verdict doctor?" Ezra asks and I let out a small laugh.

"Well from what I can tell you were just grazed barely but your arm needs rest. No training with Kanan and no missions your arm needs to heal. You might be luck and get a mark though." I admit.

"Really?!" Ezra asks quickly and smile tugging his lips up.

"Mmhm." I say as I tie the bandage off.

"Sweet." Is his only reply before he jumps up and walks over to the ladder and begins to go up probably to get something to eat. Zeb and Sabine follow after him leaving Hera, Kanan, and me alone. I turn to the two to see Hera watching Kanan and Kanan watching me.

"What you said before, where did you hear that?" He asks me.

I look down before I sit down on the crates Ezra was sitting on before. "My father used to work as a droid builder on Tatooine before me so at home it'd be just mom and me." I begin my eyes on the floor. "She used to tell me stories about the powerful and brave Jedi and their Padawans. She told me amazing stories about a great Jedi master with a purple lightsaber. I only realized that the Jedi she was talking about was my father was the day they both died." I explain softly. "She told me about the rules the Jedi had and she raised me to follow those rules with only a few exceptions." I continue still looking down at the floor. "When I was little I would wake up early and watch her stretch but only now do I know that she was practicing stances." I stop for a second before I pick up remembering what my mother had been like before everything with my father coming home shot in the shoulder. "Once when I was little some kids had started to beat up my brother and I just... I just got so mad I... I... I did something I shouldn't have done and my mother found out. She told me that once a wise Jedi master told her that a true Jedi doesn't let their anger cloud their judgement." I finish as I look up at the two.

Kanan looks calmer than before but I feel a deep sorrow through the force. Hera stares down at me with sad eyes as she kneels in front of me. "What happened to you?" She ask softly.

I shake my head and look down again only to have her lift my head her fingers under my chin. "I... I don't wanna talk about it." I whisper as my eyes start to tear up. Hera nods her head and moves away from me letting me get up and climb the ladder. I slowly walk to Sabine's room and climb up to my bunk before I lay down and stare up at the ceiling. I try to shut my mind off but I just can't stop thinking about what happened to my family on Tatooine and how we were all separated all because of my brother. I listen to the others outside the door as they walk back and forth going to the kitchen or their rooms. I sigh as I turn onto my side so I face the wall and I close my eyes hoping to go to sleep and not wake up for twenty thousand rotations but all I get are flashes of what happened to my parents and my traitor brothers face.
