"It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." -Eleanor Roosevelt
~Michelle~
"All right guests, we are now in New York! I hope you enjoyed the flight!! Have a great day." The pilot with the oversized beard says, obviously faking the enthusiasm. I stand up, bonking my head on the luggage compartment. I had fallen asleep listening to pop music on Pandora. It was paused when I woke up, Quinn probably turned it off. Speaking of Quinn, when I accidentally bump my head, he can't help but burst out laughing. I shove his arm playfully."Hey!! Sorry, I can't help it!" He pleads, pretending to have an injured arm. Quinn's baggy jeans suffocate his weary legs, his oversized sweatshirt swallowing his strong features, hiding them from everyone. His forehead crinkles a certain way as he laughs, a cute soft chuckle, not an obnoxious snort like mine.
We step into the aisle. I can't help but notice his grey and black Nikes, muddy and worn out. A runner maybe? He catches me staring at them, glancing away embarrassed, his sapphire eyes moving bright like the moonlight, engulfing light from outside as we walk back to our gate.
"So Michelle, where are you going to go?" Quinn asks eagerly, his eyes lighting up like a newly lit candle, slowly wearing off. His thin eyebrows form an arch, as he's obviously curious about the future.
"My mom had a business penthouse here, so I'm going to stay there. What about you?" I give a small grin along with my room number in case anything happens.
"I'm going to go to a random hotel and hope for the best." Quinn sighs, not quite sure if he will get a room. "It was great meeting you, Michelle!" Quinn smiles ear to ear, a real smile, not a fake cheesy one. Wonder wanders through his eyes, his hair flopping into them. His muscular hand pushes the strand away, he waves awkwardly, and walks off.
That sure was one interesting person. He wasn't too bad, actually.
I approach the luggage claim and try to spot Quinn. He's no where in sight, he must be really quick. I wait for about 5 minutes, checking Instagram on my iPhone, until I see a black suitcase, covered with stamps from Africa, Europe, Australia, and even the Amazon. I look around, trying to see who it belongs to, when Quinn casually stands to retrieve it. He catches my eye, and smirks. Wow, Quinn has gone a lot of places! I think to myself. I say goodbye before he runs out the automatic doors and jumps into a taxi.
Finally, my navy suitcase rolls around, and I quickly take it and get in line for a taxi. After a long 10 minutes, I've reached the front and am hopping into a small, sunflower shaded cab. I look around as we arrive in the city. Shining lights, crowds laughing, homeless people begging, cabs honking, couples kissing, people holding millions of shopping bags.
This is where my new life begins.

I stare down at the clouds below me, and at the sun above bursting with a glowing sensation. I remember how I always wanted to live on a cloud, to be free from stress, to float wherever, and to start over. Now I'm starting over, and butterflies fill my stomach. No, not butterflies. More like an entire zoo. I'm finally starting off with a new life.I sneak a quick glance at the beauty seated next to me, to find she's sleeping with her earbuds still propped into her ears. Her luscious brown hair hangs from her perfectly shaped head, still perfect while asleep. I click the home button on her iPhone 6+ rose gold edition. The music reads "Centuries" by Fallout Boy, one of my favorite songs. I peek at her dainty face, not seeing someone like her listening to this. I quickly pause it, not wanting it to wake her from her sleep.
Soon enough, we've landed and the pilot starts talking, but I zone out until I see Michelle abruptly stand up, smashing her head into the storage space above her. I can't help but laugh, her face is priceless. Her eyes squint, her nose crinkles slightly, and her lips make a perfect O. She shoves me and I fake having a hurt arm. I ask her what she's going to do now, hoping I'll see her again. She explains to me that her mom had a penthouse. Lucky! I hurry to the luggage claim, eager to start my new experience here.
I grab my suitcase with stickers from everywhere I travelled, some almost peeling off, and see Michelle looking at me. I smirk at her, and as she says goodbye, I run off to the taxi line and jump into a cab. I hope to see that wonder again, lighting up my world like a bonfire, sparks of joyfulness landing on me.
I look outside at the gorgeous sunset, the sun peeking out from behind the tall skyscrapers. It reminds me of Michelle, all the different colors and emotions. Sadness, innocence, recklessness, and happiness all coming together to create it. I wonder if I'll ever be lucky enough to lay my eyes on her again. The cab stops in front of a small Inn that I'll be staying at. I'm finally here.
Here I go, into my new life.
