Caitlin's head eased down nearly touching her desk when she was jolted awake by her desk phone ringing. "Congressman Killingsworth's office, this is Caitlin." She'd been in DC for over a month now and it was a whirlwind of working and drinking.
"Don't sound so professional." Jenn had become a friend, like she said she would. There was never a dull moment with her.
"You woke me up, thank you very much."
"You need a cigarette as much as I do?"
"Always." Caitlin slid her nude heels back on under the desk.
"Five minutes?"
"Perfect." She wrapped her scarf around her neck and grabbed her coat. Caitlin had been staring at the same section of legislation all day today a little cold air and nicotine might wake her up.
As she opened the enormous wooden door, she spotted Jenn down the hall. "Are you going to wait for me?"
Jenn turned to smile at Caitlin. "Well, come on Georgia, put a little pep in it."
Her steps remained the same and Jenn stuck out her hip impatiently. Her pants today were patterned with a modern geometric turquoise design and she had a tight sweater in a jewel tone that made her look like an exotic princess. Her black waves curled around her shoulders.
"I always feel really frumpy next to you," Caitlin said as they pushed through the doors.
"Well Georgia, you could use with a wardrobe tune up. You don't have to wear boxy suits just because you work for a Congressman. You can wear dresses and things."
"Congressman Killingsworth is super conservative. I think if I came in with a v-neck wrap dress he'd seen me home with orders to cover up the girls."
"Oh how naïve you are Georgia. If I've learned one thing on the Hill, it's that women are rewarded for looking feminine."
Once outside, they huddled together to light their cigarettes in the wind. Jenn sighed with relief. "It's pure heaven. Why is everything I love, besides clothes, so fucking bad for me?"
"Isn't that true about most things that make you feel so good?"
"That's true statement." Jenn pushed her hair to one side and twisted it to keep it out of the way. "Speaking of orgasms..."
Laughter burst out of Caitlin so unexpectedly. "But those aren't bad for you are they?"
"Oh honey, most of the time they are because of the man who is giving them to you. You know?"
Caitlin just shook her head.
"So Aiden..." Jenn started and then held her hands out to measure his length.
"Yeah, that's about right," Caitlin confirm. "Normal, but pretty wide."
"Ooooo, I like wide the best. Hits everything, you know?"
"Oh, I know."
"And?" Jenn prodded.
"And nothing. We had sex and I haven't heard from him in three days."
Jenn's eyes narrowed.
"I know. You warned me. It's fine."
"He's a whore."
"At least I made him work for it. He took me on at least twelve dates. He was fun and I don't know too many people."
"Stop."
Caitlin inhaled her cigarette.
"Do not make excuses for not having manners. You have sex with someone you should at least communicate with them afterward."
