Alyssa was exhausted, she had just taken care of the afternoon crowd of customers which swarmed into the tiny cafe for their daily doses of caffeine and sugar.
Alyssa, a twenty two year old brunette has been a waitress at 'Sugary Indulgences' for the past seven months as she had student loans to clear up and no family to help. Her mom left her and her dad to run off with some rich businessman from another city and her dad as a result started to drink until he lost his job as an editor for the local paper. What little savings her father had along with student loans helped Alyssa to complete her course in her dream field of Business Management and earn her diploma, now it was time to pay off her debts to the government. Today like every other day she had experienced in her seven months of employment at the cafe was hectic; by noon every square inch of the cafe was occupied by customers either enjoying their sweet treats or waiting to be server.
Alyssa was one of four waitresses/servers at the tiny establishment but her coworker and close friend Amanda who was supposed to be on shift with her was running late because she had an interview for some cosmetics and beauty program she applied and because of the kindhearted person she was, Alyssa didn't hesitate to cover for her.
"Shit" Aly muttered when she saw their boss entering the cafe. Earlier she had told him Amanda had a last minute appointment so that's why she was running late.
"Where is Martinez?" Aly held her breath uncertain of the next lie she'd have to come up with.
"Right here" Alyssa quickly looked around to see Amanda standing behind her all ready in her apron and hairnet. "Good afternoon Mr McGuire, I was in the ladies' just now"
Aly exhaled in total relief.
"Miss Laurence here informed me of your appointment, please try to keep them in sync with your schedule" He said before heading towards his office.Roger McGuire was the owner of the cafe. He was in his sixties, short and stumpy with a balding head. Both Aly and Amanda found him very weird.
"I'm so sorry Al, the interview was delayed because the interviewer was in a meeting. I owe you big time".
"No problem Mandy, that's the least I could do to thank you for all you've done for me. How did it go?"
Since the place had emptied out , the girls decided to take it as an opportunity to restock with pastry and utensils.
"It was pretty good, they'll call me after they've processed the application. My interviewer wasn't hot though" Amanda made a fake pout before they erupted in laughter. "He'd only be hot in a 'sugardaddy' kinda way... like old Grinchy in there"
They both laughed again at the mean but honest reference made of their boss.
"Here" Chase Callaghan snapped as his driver/bodyguard Lance Carter approached a tiny cafe on a side of town he wasn't really familiar with. Unlike the others along the way, 'Sugary Indulgence' didn't look crowded and congested which was perfect for Chase.
At the moment he just needed somewhere quiet to think and ease his mind. The downsides to being the CEO of a multi-million dollar company were starting to take a toll on the young bachelor. Chase's father and founder of Callaghan Corp, Carlisle Callaghan made his son a deal which to him was very simple but to the twenty six year old bachelor, was asking him to make major sacrifices which were far from his ideal life choices. Both men had a 9:1 ratio of shares in the company with Chase holding the larger share. Carlisle agreed to give his son sole ownership if he got married within a year's time and prove to the family he was capable of settling down and being responsible. Chase however, was not in the least bit ecstatic about this deal, though he wanted sole ownership of the business, He wasn't keen on settling down or being married, instead he preferred his freedom of being with whoever he chose whenever he wanted in 'no strings attached' relationships.
To add to his stress, his personal assistant decided to run off with some guy on the day Chase had a major presentation to launch with the heads of a potential client, leaving him hanging; to put it simple, the meeting was a disaster and the chances of them coming on board with Callaghan Corp were very small. Right now Chase just needed some caffeine and some peace to gather his thoughts.
