Her head was pounding; two Advils and a hot shower later Aly still felt like she got hit by a truck and with regards to her stomach, nauseous was an understatement of what she was feeling. Toast and coffee didn't do much for the feeling but she dared not look at any other food.
Aly was now more upset than hurt with regards to how the night went and the fact that not even a text from Nate despite the ones she had sent along with the missed calls; she was dying to hear his reason this time.
Today she went with a light peach colored top and black pants with black flats; she was in no mood for heels seeing how she was feeling and her hair in the usual ponytail. Picking up her already packed bag, Aly took up her keys and left to catch the bus.
As she stepped off the elevator Aly was surprised to see that Chase had already arrived but he wasn't alone, a red haired girl stood beside him and Mrs Martin, all three deep in conversation.
"Good morning" She greeted them.
They all responded but Chase called her back as she walked off."Aly this is Ms Andrea Peters, she'll be the temporary secretary as Mrs Martin will no longer be with us. Andrea, Ms Alyssa Laurence, my PA".
"Nice to meet you" She smiled."Likewise" Aly replied.
"Mrs Martin has family related business to deal with back in Florida, it's sudden but that's life; unplanned and full of surprises. She'll be leaving today and I believe I speak for all when I say she will be missed" Chase continued.
Mrs Martin who was getting a bit emotional hugged and thanked us all saying she'll miss us to and she'll keep in contact before leaving.
Damn, I really liked her. Hopefully this temp wasn't a bitch like the other women here. Aly thought a bit saddened by the news.
"Excuse me" she said going in the direction of the kitchenette to put her lunch in the fridge. While there, Aly decided to get Chase's coffee now and avoid the extra trip back.
Chase had left by the time she had returned and Juliet, the secretary from the finance department was getting Andrea familiar with the 'whats' and 'hows' of her job. Aly continued and made her way to her office though she was a few minutes early.
"How was your date that I was rudely informed I was intruding on?" Asked Chase after she entered.
Well for starters I got stood up, my date who decided not to show up and didn't have the decency to call or text with an explanation so I treated myself to wine, four glasses too many and woke up feeling like shit this morning. But on the bright side, since the food was untouched, I got lunch and have dinner from it.
"It went okay, we just met so it's just our second date" She replied convincingly as she placed his coffee on his desk. "Black with two sugars"
Bullshit...in its purest form too. He however didn't have to know that."Ok and thanks for the coffee. Well I emailed you a document to be printed for a meeting we have at three this evening" He replied. "Feel free to read it over and any points you think might enhance the whole thing...I trust your skills"
'Wow, where's my boss? Wherever he is let him stay, I like this... whoever he was' Aly thought in shock.
"Yes, that meeting with Foster Inc and thanks, I'll see what I can do" With that she continued to her office.
"You look nice by the way" He called.
"Thanks" Aly replied recovering from the shock of being complimented by Chase Callaghan.
Aly had settled in and began working but stopped editing the document to take an incoming call.
"Callaghan Corp, good morning, how may I help you?"
"Joseph Livingston from Livingston Shipping, please inform your boss that my team and I will meet with him and his at our London headquarters this weekend to discuss previously made dealings".
"Ok no problem Mr Livingston. Anything else?" She asked in her most professional tone while scribbling down the information that would later be transfer to the diary containing all other meetings both past and to be attended.
"That will be all. Have a good day"
"Thanks and you too" she replied before the line went dead.
Aly quickly called Chase and informed him of the meeting after which I resumed working on the document. The morning went pretty smoothly with only a few more calls for meetings to be scheduled for the duration of this week. Sending the modified file to be printed, Aly logged out of the system then collected the nine copies and locked them in a folder.
It was now her lunchtime so she got her bag and left for the lunchroom after placing the file on Chase's desk, closing the door on her departure.Aly microwaved her lunch of shrimp fried rice with a piece of the salmon fillet. Collecting her drink and water from the fridge, she walked out heading back to her office.
"Oh there you are, I believe we have matters to discuss?" Chase was back with food from that Italian restaurant they visited.
Really? He had to remember?
"Oh right. Should I come back?" Aly asked hoping he'd say yes.
However he didn't say yes, instead he suggested that she have lunch with him while 'talked'."So why don't you just fix things with Shayon and marry her?" Aly asked after Chase was finished explaining the issue between him and his dad.
"I'm not interested in an actual marriage, Shayon refuses to accept that so no, we can't fix things. Therefore, a contractual one will work in this case. I 'get married', my dad fucks off and withdraws his ownership and I get the company fully, my 'wife' gets a ten million dollars compensation after the contract expires... everyone's happy, everyone wins".
If only it was as easily done as it was said by him. He had nothing to lose in this.
Swallowing the last bit of her lunch, Aly listened as he spoke as if they were agreeing to go for a walk on the beach side.
"I'll let you know by Friday" Was all she said in response to all he had said.
"Thank you. Excuse me" He got up to take a call.
Taking that as an escape route, Aly got up and went to her office.
