"I'll be here." was the last thing I heard from the woman, as I pushed open the pharmacy doors with shaking hands. My stolen ID tag was clipped to the breast pocket on the scrubs I wore. As of now until I leave, I am Jacqueline Morgan.
I pulled the surgical mask over my nose as I turned the corner. Two woman, looking down at their phones, suddenly looked at me. The older looking of the woman glanced at me for a second before doing a double-take.
"Jackie?" she asked. I nodded my head yes.
"Don't you know that hair color is inappropriate?" the younger of the two woman asked.
"I guess." I said with an irritated sigh. I know I'm playing the part of someone else, but has anyone ever heard of not asking rude questions like that?
"Why the mask, Jacqueline?" the older woman asked again.
"I have seemed to have caught a cold." I answered calmly. They both did a weird side nod and continued on with what they were doing. The older woman with a name tag that read, Margaret, gestured for me to get closer to the two of them.
They had someone sitting down, at one of the assumed stations. Margaret took some weird tape thing, and wrapped it tightly around the upper arm of the woman sitting there. She used a sanitizing towel and wiped an area on the inside of the elbow. Margaret picked up a syringe and injected into the sanitized spot. I cringed in disgust. I hated shots but..
"It's as easy as that, girls. Just make sure you hit beside this vein here," she said, motioning to the inflamed vein on the woman she just gave the shot to. "Thanks for showing up for the demonstration, Becky." Margaret said to the woman who gingerly rose from her seat.
"Can't pass up a free flu shot, can I?" The woman named Becky answered. Margaret and Becky shared a quick laugh before Becky exited the pharmacy. There was a line of people gathering for flu shots now. It's 8 in the morning and people decided to crawl out of their holes for some flu shots. I was taught how to administer shots. The first person I had to give a shot to, was very displeased when blood started running down their arm. I got a glare, before they got up and left the area. The next three shots I gave were successful though.
The Med Tech in training was having a hard time. I am not even a nurse and I am doing better then her. She is younger then me by 3 years, according to her ID tag. That makes her 19? Yeah.
"Jackie, just go to the station down there and begin giving shots while I try and help Kristen." Margaret said to me, looking angered at 'Kristen'. I can't blame her though, I am getting mad at the girl because of how many times she has messed up.
I looked under the shelf in the station we were in now, making sure the box of shots wasn't there. It wasn't thankfully, so they must be in the other station.
"Right away." I said, nervously turning and walking down quite a ways to get to the station. Now is where the real task begins. Half of the line from the other station followed me as directed by the teacher. When I got to the station, there was already a box sitting on the counter, but I looked under the shelf for the box I need. I pulled it out and opened it. I was immediately questioned of why I was doing this.
"Why don't you just use that box on the counter?" Asked a small girl. She was second to first in line. She was holding the hand of who I assumed to be her mother. I have to give one of these shots to a little girl? Oh shit I hope these shots are something to boost immune system or some shit like that.
"I am just getting all my supplies out before I get started." I said. I pulled down my surgical mask and smiled. The little girl smiled back, and her mother laughed warmly. I felt a bit better now. This isn't bad. I think it will be fun, it's not like I am hurting anyone.
