Emily had a normal childhood like any kid. She had a mom, dad and two brothers.
However things got bad one winter. When she was 13 years old her father got very sick. So sick in fact that he was having trouble breathing. He smoked. A lot. He told Emily not to worry about him. He said he was fine but somehow she knew he was lying. She went along with it anyway. One day it got bad. They had to take her father to the hospital. He wasn't doing very well but she didn't know exactly why.
It turned out he was sicker than everybody thought. He had stage three lung cancer. It was pretty much irreversible at this point so he didn't have much time left.
A few days have passed and Emily realized her father is dying. He was the only person in her family that really understood her. This made her sad.
He told her not to worry and that everything will be ok but she knew it wasn't going to be. Nothing would be the same without him. He was the only person she could honestly talk to about anything and he was practically dead.
One day while visiting her father, Emily didn't realize that it would be her last. He looked very sick. It was only a matter of time. He noticed that she wasn't her happy self he was used to seeing every day.
She wasn't. She was depressed. Not to the point of cutting herself but she just wasn't up for anything. She had no desire to even get out of bed to go to school.
When she went to see him that last day, he told her to do what her heart desires. He asks her to do whatever she wants as long as she ends up being happy. All he wants from her is happiness. He told her that he will always be watching over her. Emily tears up. Her father tells her to make her proud. He wipes a single tear from her cheek, kisses her head and then passes away.
All she can do is cry.....
