Duet

"Pinch me!"

"Why?"

"So I know I'm not dreaming."

"Why would you be dreaming?"

"Because in all my life I never thought I would see you in person."

"Why not?"

"I don't know Link!" she laughs.

Emily can't remember the last time she laughed. It's been so long.

"Can you continue singing my song? You sounded so good. I'll join ya if you sing Rhett's part."

"You think I sound good?!"

"Well yeah! I may just have to get you on our show to prove it."

"Oh I don't know Link. I get really nervous in front of people I don't know that well"

"Just think about it. Please."

"Ummmmm..... Ok Link. I'll think about it. Oh! How will I let you know when I make my decision?"

"I'm sure you'll find a way! Now what do you say? Can I sing with ya?"

"Ummmmm.... sure!" she smiles.

Link and Emily then finish singing the graduation song. When they finish Emily says to Link "I honestly never thought I would be seeing you around here."

"Why not? It's Los Angeles!"

"Good point!"

"Hahaha! So what are you doing out here on the streets of LA all by yourself?"

"Oh....." Emily got really quiet as she thought about what had happened with her mother. Link seemed to notice this and asked her "you ok?" Emily then came back from her deep thoughts and said "oh... Yeah. Just thinking..." And then she smiled at Link.

"About what?" Link asked curiously.

"My mom and dad..." Emily replies sadly.

"What about them?"

"I just miss them. Or at least the way they used to be."

"Oh... What do you mean by that?"

She looked down at the ground, sighed and then started to tell Link what happened. "My dad died a few years ago. Ever since then it always felt like my mom hated me. I got so sick of it that I ran away. I've been trying to find a job ever since. It seems like no one would hire me because I'm so young."

"Well how old are you anyway?"

"I'm sixteen years old. I know I don't look it."

"No you do not!"

"Well I am!" She laughs and then says "Link, I am so happy right now. It's been so long since I've been this happy. When I found your first video, it was right after my dad died. I was so depressed but you and Rhett helped me get through my tough time. Every day you would post a new video and I would get so excited because I get to laugh at two guys making fools of themselves."

"Hahahaha! Well I'm glad Rhett and I are able to help some mythical beasts out there."

"Oh you have no idea. At first I didn't want to tell you anything because I wondered why you wanted to talk to me of all people. Then you made me laugh. Things change when you make people laugh, Link."

Link then smiles and chuckles at this and they continue talking. He ends up giving her one of his business cards at the end of their conversation. He said "call if you ever want to talk. And please think about coming on the show. I'm telling you you'd be great. The other mythical beasts would love you."

"I will Serpent King!" Link laughs and they say their goodbyes. Emily continues to play her guitar and sing happy tunes as she thinks about what happened with Link.

"Should I go on the show?" She thinks to herself. "I don't know. I'm not good in front of a camera." It gets late and she gets tired. As Emily yawns she thinks "maybe I will go on the show" right before she falls asleep.

The next morning she wakes up and realizes she still has Link's business card on her. She gives him a call but there's no answer so she leaves a message:

"Hey Link. It's Emily. From yesterday. I was thinking a lot about what you said after you left and I wanted to let you know that I would like to try coming onto your show and singing with you guys. Ummmmm so if you get this message just stop by my spot like yesterday. I'll be there. Bye!"

She then hangs up and continues on with her daily routine.

When Link gets to work he sees that he has a message and listens to it. It's from Emily. He had a feeling she would call him back. He just didn't know it would be that soon.When he finishes listening to the message he starts to smile. He tells Rhett everything that happened the day before and tells him his idea of having Emily perform on the show. Rhett is a bit hesitant because he doesn't know this girl. However from what Link is telling him this girl doesn't really have much and sounds like she's alone so he agrees with Link. He think it would be good for her. In more than one way. It could get her some self confidence along with exposure to large crowds. Even though they will all be on the other side of the camera. After their conversation, Rhett has a great idea for the episode that Link was thinking about including Emily in.
