A few years have passed. Emily is now 16 years old. She is not as depressed but she still missed her father.
Ever since her father's death, Emily's mother has not acted the same towards her. She was always getting drunk and going out with stupid guys who were no good for her. One night her mother came home drunk. She started yelling at Emily for no apparent reason.
Her mother told her that her father was the reason she didn't beat her. She told Emily that she had every right to just no opportunity. Her mother complained to her that she was a "daddy's girl" which she was.
Emily adored her father and he adored her. Her mother complained about how much he would look out for her. He was always protective of her. It made her mother sick thinking about it.
Emily told her mother she was drunk and she didn't know what she was talking about. However, her mother's attitude towards her didn't get much better after that night. In fact it got even worse.
Every day Emily would try to make her mother happy by going to school and getting good grades. It never did anything to help. She would do all of her chores and whatever else her mother wanted but she knew it would do nothing. Some days she just felt like Cinderella.
Emily just feels like a very depressed Cinderella every day of her life. Instead of a prince coming to rescue her she feels like she has nobody. Not even her friends at school know why she is so depressed. They would try and ask her but she would never give them a straight answer.
There is only one thing that makes her happy. That is going onto her laptop and watching two youtubers Rhett and Link. They always make her smile even if she is having a bad day. It seems to be more like that lately for her. Her days get so bad sometimes that she just really wants to leave.
She told her mother that she is very tempted to leave. Her mother was against this of course. Her mother would tell her "Emily you are too young to be on your own. You need to be here where I can keep an eye on you and protect you."
Emily knew it was all crap. All her mother would do was nag and yell and lecture her every five minutes. She was getting really sick of it. Emily would be in the car for five minutes and her mother would be lecturing her about school.
One day she decides not to talk to her mother. She would listen and pay attention to her mother nagging but she wouldn't respond. She had no desire to talk to her mother and she really didn't care about what her mother had to say anyway.
Emily's relationship with her mother hasn't been the same since.
That night Emily decided to pack up all her things. She took her laptop, IPod, phone, chargers, and a backpack full of clothes and put it all by her bedroom door. There was also an old beat up guitar that her father had. He always meant to get it fixed up. She took that too. She told herself that she would get it fixed when she had the chance. The next morning she would leave when her mother wasn't around.
