Chapter 3
Clara and Faith say down in English next their friend Jessie, who was writing down the poetry assignment. While writing their teacher asked if Clara could pass out the thick packet and Clara said yes she could. As she was walking around she remembered that she would have to give the packet to Jace and got nervous.
One of the kids sitting next to Jace stuck his leg out but Clara didn't notice as she turned around to look at Faith. When Clara turned to give the paper to Jace as she tripped falling flat on her face and holding on to her wrist. Everyone started laughing, except a few people. Faith was walking over to help right at the same time Jace stood up out of his chair and knelt down next to Clara to help her up.
"Are you ok Clara?" Jace said in a soft voice looking into Clara's eyes.
"Oh, um no I think I've sprained my wrist." Clara said holding her wrist tightly.
"Well here let me help you up." Jace continued to look straight into Clara's eyes. Clara could feel her face flush with embarrassment from falling and from Jace holding her hand. She looked into his eyes. Mrs. Blinn, the English teacher, looked at the kid who tripped Clara and gave him detention. Then she told Jace to help Clara down to the nurse's office.
Jace walked Clara to the door and opened it for her.
"Thank you." Clara said looking away from Jace.
Jace looked at Clara again and said, "I'm so sorry that kid did that to you."
"It's fine, thank you for helping me get up." Clara whispered trying to look at Jace. Clara really wanted to ask Jace why he had stopped talking to her and now suddenly he was helping her and staring dreamily into her eyes. Clara had to find out.
