The halls were quiet as Liam and Bailey made their way down the stairs to the front entrance. Opening the door, the sun was beaming down on the academy's grounds as small groups of students littered the vast space either studying with friends, relaxing or playing catch with Frisbees or footballs. Liam led him to a shady spot and laid back on the grass.
"Finally I get a chance to relax outside!" he sighed contently. Bailey sat beside Liam, leaning back on his hands. The trees began to sway as a breeze swept across the grounds. Bailey closed his eyes and felt the breeze tousle his hair gently and listened intently, the wind blocking out the distant voices of the students. Bailey wouldn't have gotten this type of quiet in the busy streets of London.
After a moment of silence, Liam spoke up. "Hey Bailey?" he began, causing Bailey to open his eyes and looked over at the laying blond. "Yeah?" he asked arching an eyebrow. Liam propped himself up on his hands "Do you got someone special back in London?" The question threw Bailey off-guard and Bailey felt his face redden "N...No I don't." He answered and looked away from the blond male. Liam looked upwards at the cloudless sky.
"What type of girl would you go for?" He asked casually and Liam looked back at him and thought to himself. "What is with the sudden question?" Liam turned his head and looked at Bailey "What, Too personal?" He questioned as he saw the expression on Bailey's face. "No it's not that, just wondering what's with the sudden questions." Bailey asked and Liam shrugged his shoulders, his blond hair swaying at the gesture "I'm bored and I am too tired to be a clown" he explained while stifling a yawn. "Oh. Well to answer your question, I suppose someone into the things I'm into." Bailey said looking up at the empty sky.
"What would that be?" Liam asked and laid back down. Bailey thought for a moment "Well... I'm sort of a book worm, mostly reading to pass the time when schoolwork wasn't an option" Liam snorted and smiled "you read for fun when you can't do schoolwork? Gee Bailey didn't know you had no friends." Bailey knew he was only teasing but the comment got Liam a swift punch in the shoulder causing the blond to yelp in pain.
"Even if I am a book worm, I will kick your ass" Bailey retorted and looked away. Liam sat up. "Aww don't be angry with me Bailey. Will a kiss make it better?" Liam joked and made smooching noises near his ear. Bailey shoved him back, causing Liam to fall flat on his back.
"No way, I have no idea what your mouth has been." Bailey joked back, setting the two friends up in laughter.
After a few hours of random conversation and several bad jokes by Liam, which led to a wrestling match, they went to the dining hall for dinner and sitting at their usual table. Elaine joined them soon afterwards, sitting down on the other side of Bailey.
"Bailey, you have grass in your hair" she stated and plucked out several blades of grass. "Ah yeah, Liam and I were wrestling outside after several bad jokes" Bailey gave Liam a side glance to see the blond giving them a cheeky grin and a thumbs up. Elaine rolled her eyes and smiled.
Dinner continued as usual, talking amongst friends either about gossip or complaints of assignments. Liam brought up the conversation he had with Bailey and Elaine listened.
"Bailey is a book worm? I would not have guessed that for myself" Elaine stated with a small amount of surprise in her voice though glaring at Liam once Bailey told her about the insult.
"You insulted him for being fond of his academic studies and his hobby for reading? Not to mention saying he had no friends Liam I should smack you upside the head!" She threatened and Liam pretended to cower being Bailey and holding his hands up innocently.
"Hey it was only a joke! I tried to kiss him to make it better but he did not find it amusing" he added and Elaine's anger seemed to dwindle as she let out a snort. Bailey looked at her confused but then understood that she was making a mental image of Liam and him kissing.
"Well as long as you apologized, you are forgiven" Elaine said Liam smiled back at her. Bailey stood up with his empty tray to get another sandwich. As he was looking through the options he felt someone tap on his shoulder. Turning around he saw Julian.
"Hey Bailey, how's your first real day here?" he asked and grabbed a tray to get another helping of food, mainly sticking with meat.
"It's been good, a bit swamped with the amount of assignments but I love doing schoolwork that's a challenge for once" Bailey said while picking up a sandwich and placing it on his own tray. Julian smiled at him.
"That's good; it's refreshing to hear more students not complaining their assignments. Too many spoiled teens so used to having things handed to them" Julian sighed. Bailey imagined how much crap he had to deal with daily.
After a small chat, Bailey said goodbye to Julian and headed back to his table to find Liam and Elaine in a heated conversation. Stopping a few feet away, Bailey overheard Elaine asking Liam a few question about the talk he had with Bailey outside.
"Bailey is really single?" He heard her say and Liam nodded "Yeah, he said he did not have anyone special back home. It surprised me" he said stuffing his face. Elaine sighed "Liam, please slow down or you'll end up choking" She stated and Liam shrugged after swallowing his food "Hey don't worry, I eat like this all the time" he said casually and Elaine rolled her eyes "Keep eating like that and you might scare away Bailey, he'll think you have a black hole in your stomach. Anyway, Bailey being single doesn't mean you force him to go to the other girls in school" She said strictly and Liam chuckled "Aww why? Do you want him all to yourself?"
Hearing enough, Bailey approached the table and sat down, pretending he didn't hear the conversation.. Liam gave one of his signature grins and wrapped an arm around Bailey shoulder, almost causing him to drop his sandwich. Bailey sighed but didn't say anything. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Elaine giving Liam a threatening gaze with her deep green eyes. He wondered what's wrong with her.
The next few days had been a pattern. Shower in the morning, getting dressed, meeting up with Liam and Elaine for breakfast in the dining hall, Classes, doing an hour of schoolwork, hanging out with Liam outside, dinner, hanging out in the lounge and curfew. After being at Campbelle Academy for a week, Bailey was in the library, finishing up his last assignment for History, sitting at an empty table when he heard someone slide in the chair across from his.
"Mind if I sit here?" He heard a male American accent say and he glanced up from his book seeing a black haired male student. Shrugging, Bailey nodded "Sure, I don't mind" He said and went back to his book.
The male student set his stuff on the floor and opened a history book. "I'm Herald, I'm in the same History class as you" He said and Bailey looked at him. "Ah, well I'm Bailey, but you probably knew that since I had to recite a poem on my first day" Bailey said and Herald nodded.
"Hey, are you good in History?" He asked suddenly and Bailey raised an eyebrow.
"I guess I am, I've been getting A's so far" He explained and Herald smiled. "Could you help me? I need a study buddy so I can get an A on the next test. Will you be a study buddy?" He asked with pleading eyes. Bailey blinked but smiled.
"Sure, having a study buddy will help us both pass" Bailey said and Herald smiled brightly. "Thank you!" He exclaimed and the two began studying. Bailey helped Herald learn easy ways to remember important events and quizzed him on questions that will definitely be on the test.
Soon, curfew came around as the Librarian began telling students to head back to their rooms. While Bailey packed up his things, Herald asked something. "Hey Bailey, would it be okay to study with you again?" The male student asked hopefully.
"Sure, it was fun studying with you Herald. If you ever need help studying, stop by my room" He said before saying goodbye and heading back to his room, everything he went over with Herald still fresh in his mind.
