The Insane Souls

Chapter eight

"You didn't ruin anything. We're still on our way." He hesitated then said, "I love you." He turned bright red. "Was that not okay.. or too fast?" I could tell he was regretting saying it.
"Just a little fast.. there's nothing wrong with a little fast though. And it doesn't mean I don't love you by not saying it back.. I just don't want this to feel forced."
"I understand. We're here." I looked out the window and my jaw dropped. It was a beautiful meadow hidden by huge forest trees. Thorn chuckled at my reaction and said, "This is where I go when I feel upset, angry, or even depressed.. it helps clear my mind."
"How did you find this place??"
"On the other side of the trees there's a small house. My parents and I lived there before my mom passed."
"Oh.. I'm sorry."
"For what? You didn't do anything."
"I don't know..it's just something you'd say.. I never really understood why."
We sat in the sun for hours and I said we should go when I caught myself falling asleep.. why didn't I bring my medication. I would've been able to sleep. When we get home I realize I forgot to text Willow. I walk in and she's asleep on the couch.. was she waiting for me? It's only 2pm. "Willow let's get you to bed." I help her up and walk her to her room, she's obviously confused as to why I'm waking her up. She kept mumbling things under her breath.
"What? Huh? Why are..? What?"
I put her to bed while hiding my laughs. I took my pill and went up to my room. When I take it I have hallucinations. When I don't I have nightmares.
My grandma went out if town again. I still don't know why. Neither her or Willow will tell me. So I have to walk to school. I'm a few blocks away from the school when I here laughing from behind me. I ignore it and keep walking.
"HEY!" I hear someone yell from behind me, I keep walking and my heart beats faster.
"Where do you think you're going?!" I start to shake as I try to look for something to hit them with, if necessary. I saw a branch a few feet ahead and knew I could use that. I felt someone's hands on my shoulders and turned me around.
"I asked you a question."
"I'm walking to school. Leave me alone."
"How come I've never seen you here before?" I was getting frightened with his questions. I kneed him in the crotch and ran to the branch. I picked it up and didn't use it until he made a move first. He pulled a pocket knife out and went to stab me in the side. I tried to hit him in the head with the branch but he grabbed it and pulled it out of my hands. He pushed me down and used the handle of the knife to hit me in the side of the head, making a cut close to my eye. I curled up and kicked him in the stomach, making him drop his knife. I stabbed him in the shoulder, dropped the knife, picked up my bag, and ran to school. I was late but that doesn't matter to me now. I rush into class and can tell that Thorn is pissed when he sees my eye. When we get to lunch he rushes up to me.
"What happened?"
"On my way to school some guy came up to me and pulled out a knife. He hit me with the handle, then I got the knife and stabbed him. I'm okay though.. it's just a small cut."
"You're not okay, you're hurt. And with your mental state.." My heart dropped when he said this and he could see it in my face. My mental state? The nightmares? The hallucinations?
"Whisper I'm sorry.. I didn't mean-"
"Sure you didn't." I walked away with tears in my eyes. I got through the rest if the day avoiding him. I walked home, taking the longer route this time avoiding people as much as possible.
