A Country Romance

Chapter 5

Jackson's POV
I was talking to another guy that worked here named Mike, I think. He started talking about a big ol party or bonfire thing and I was interested until he said he might ask Adrian to go with him. After that I zoned out because all I could think was that he can't ask Adrian because I want to ask her. I sound like a highschool boy wanting to ask a girl to prom. Soon enough the conversation is over and I turn to go clock in but what I see is something absolutely gorgeous. There, right in front of me is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I think Adrian saw me looking at her because she turned around to go clock in too. My mood completely drops when I see a couple bruises on her arms and one very big one on her side from where her crop top ends. But who could hit someone like her?
I clocked in but I can't get those bruises out of my mind. What did she do to get them, who did that to her, and what bruises are hidden and can't be seen and how long has this happened. Those are the questions that keep running through my head. All I know is that I am going to find out who did this and stop it. I ran up to Adrian and tried to start a conversation with her but before I could even say anything, she cowered away from me! What the heck? I didn't do anything... Did I? I don't think I did. I decided she isn't going to be scared of me so I walk over to her and even though she cowers away I reach out and wrap my arms around her and give her a huge hug.
"Darlin, I don't know why you are so scared of me but there is absolutely no need for it because I would never hurt you." I whisper in her ear.
" I.. I.. I don't know what to say, I'm sorry I am like I am." She says not hugging me back
I pulled her arms around me and hug her again telling her, " Princess would you please do me the honor of going out with me?"
" Uhmm.. sure" she said.
"Holy mother of Jesus you said yes! Oh my good gondy! Yes! Uh, I mean, cool we can go tomorrow after work." Great save Jackson, I say to myself.
The day passed by too quickly and I was kind of disappointed that I couldn't spend more time with Adrian but I still am ecstatic about going on a date with her tomorrow. I was taking the long way home since I walked to work today but after passing a couple houses I was walking past one and all I heard were people yelling and screaming but what really bothered me was when I heard a younger voice that sounded a heck of a lot like Adrian yelling for her dad to please stop. I wasn't thinking straight when I barged into the house and what I saw broke my heart. Adrian was on the floor being kicked by her mom and dad but after that scream I heard outside, she never said a word, she just took the beating. I called 911 and told them the address and left the phone on in my pocket without her parents noticing over all the screaming. I ran up to the mom and pushed her off and the father turned around and almost punched me once he saw I was someone else but I dodged it and tackled him to the ground and started to punch him. I know it's her dad but no parent should hit there kid. The mother was punching my back trying to get me off of a now bloodied face father and her punches actually kind of hurt. I turned around to her but I took my attention off of the man which gave him enough time to punch me square in the jaw. I fell to the side and just as the man was about to do some damage two cops came in and one shot the man in the shoulder and the other cuffed the woman. The man was trying his hardest to get away from the cops and screaming out profanities at them and Adrian.
I looked at Adrian and she was in a ball crying. I scooted over to her and held her as if it was our last days together and whispered to her, "It's okay princess, they can't hurt you anymore" I almost started to cry with her but I needed to man up and be strong for her. Eventually she fell asleep and I carried her up the stairs and found her room after locking her doors and spent most of the night holding her and stroking her hair. Looking at the clock it was almost midnight and I haven't taken a shower so I go find her shower and hurry to get in. Great, I am going to smell like a girl tomorrow. I wash my body off and get ready to get out but I realize I have to wear the same clothes I had on. Gross. But I get out and as soon as I step out of her little shower the doorknob turns. Shoot fire I should have locked it. All too soon it opens and in walks Adrian with clothes but she stops dead in her footsteps and just stares at it wide eyed I tried to cover it up but she had already seen it. Well this is awkward.
"Audrey I am so sorry!"
"Uhm..... I need to go. Here are my dads underwear and sweatpants that should fit you." She said while never taking her eyes off of mine.
I smirk and grabbed the clothes and usher her out so that way I could get dressed and hopefully fix what is going on down there because of the way Adrian was looking at it. I walked out and went up to her room to get some sleep and Adrian is already laying down asleep. Thank the lord because that would be awkward. I get in and cuddle up to her and my heart drops to my stomach when she turns around and rubs her hand on my abs going lower. She reached my waist line of my sweat pants and I quickly grab her hand and she looks up at me with eyes that are saying why did you stop me.
"Sorry baby girl but I know you are just doing that because of what happened today with your parents and me and I know you aren't ready for anything like that, I don't want you to feel like you need to since I saved you." I said even though I really didn't want to.
"Okay and thank you Jackson but I wasn't going to go any lower I hope you know that I was joking. haha Goodnight" She says laughing hysterically.
"Goodnight baby girl." I say smiling and with that, I fell into a peaceful sleep.
