6 ~ When Summer Finish
I watch as Taylor and his friends drove off. I have goodbye along with other girls waving at them and wishing them safe trip back to the city. None of them were saying neither of the boy’s name but something in my stomach stirs as I look at the girls besides me.
They were all beautiful and there were too many of them to be for just one person or even too. He wouldn’t cheat on me. I thought at that time as I made my way home but I still couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.
The rest of the weekend, I did my summer project. Libby was still at their grandparents and Josh is babysitting his little brother. His newly-wed parents are on their honeymoon, leaving their three years old boy under Josh care. His sister had left for college in the city. They had to find some accommodation and part-time job because according to Josh, their dad wants them to learn how to be independent.
Taylor still calls me time to time or text me. He said he is still busy preparing for his first year in university. He told me how he and his friends found a flat where all of them can stay together in a house then mention how cheap it was. Then he continues on and on about being excited and what’s not before he had to go.
On Monday, Libby came back from her grandparent’s house and we decide to meet the next day since she just got back and she said she needed to get some rest.
Josh called about the project and I offer to help him out by babysitting while he focuses on his project. When I got to his house, I didn’t expect to see their house like a war-zone. There were toys lying everywhere, dirty clothes here and there and not to mention the smell.
“I’m sorry about the mess but Micky just wouldn’t give me any time to clean the house!” Josh explained to me when I refused to enter his house which normally a sparkling clean house thanks to all of the Gale family being neat-freak.
“I bet its driving you crazy!” I teased him.
“Tell me about it!” He grunt at me while I laugh and entered the house. “Micky is just over there behind the sofa. Can you watch him for a while,” Josh was looking through at the state of their house and sigh, “while I do some cleaning and later my project?”
I laugh at his state and joked, “Maybe you could have a shower too!”
It was in the middle of the afternoon when Josh finished cleaning the house. I offer to cook our lunch and he quickly ate before going back to cleaning. When he did finish cleaning, he made me his famous spaghetti with meatballs for snacks. After our little snack, he run upstairs had the quickest shower I ever seen him do before coming back downstairs to do his project.
It was around eight when Josh finally finished his project. I said my goodnight and about to leave but when Josh open his door, Libby was standing there. She was ready to press the doorbell but we knew she didn’t expect me to be here since she was staring at me with wide eyes.
“A-Amber…” She stuttered. It was the first time we heard her stutter. Josh and I looked at each other before we looked at Libby. “W-what are you doing here?” She was clearly nervous and I don’t blame her. She had told me that she wanted rest today but here she is, visiting Josh.
“What’s wrong with you? Why are you acting… weird?” It was Josh who asked that. Libby only looked away. Josh looked at me and all I could do that time was shrug my shoulder.
I wasn’t really a stupid and I knew when someone doesn’t want to see me. “I’ll see you later then.” I told Josh you looked at me like I was insane. I looked at Libby and only nod before walking off.
I remember hearing Josh and Libby arguing from the distance but I couldn’t help but feel like I was left off then the running footsteps follows and Libby calling out my name and for me to wait for her.
“What do you want?” My voice came out irritated and I regret it when Libby looked at me with guilt and sadness but at the same time, I wasn’t bothered at what she feels.
“Look, I’m sorry I lied to you about wanting to rest first.” That was the first thing she said and it already making my blood-boiled. “The truth is, I wanted to ask Josh first on how to approach you with this subject since he told me that you are already seeing Taylor.”
I couldn’t really explain how I felt when she mention Taylor’s name but I knew whatever she was about to say was going to change everything and I didn’t like that at all.
“The night we first met him and when you were pretty wasted. I was with Taylor to drop you off…” She had started to explain but I decided to cut her off and said, “So was Josh! Taylor told me!”
“Josh left have way through!” She yelled at me. Libby never yelled at me unless she is calling from a distance so you can imagine how shock at was when she yelled at me. I remember seeing her look very frustrated. It was the first time too. “When Taylor and I were alone, he tried to hit on me and not just that time! Before you too kissed, he also hit on me quite a lot when you are too busy talking to his friends!”
My mother had always told me that I overreact too quickly or not even think before I act. “So are you telling me that he went for me because you rejected him?” I yelled back at her. “Like I’m only a second choice because YOU have to be always the first?” I never really understand at that time where all of those emotions came from but all I knew was, it was very overwhelming.
“I am just saying that you shouldn’t trust Taylor so much!”
“Why? Why do you have to do this when I am finally happy with someone?” By then I was crying and Libby looked very lost. “Ever since I could remember, all the guys I liked always asked you out first!” Then an idea came from my head when I remember the way Libby was looking at Taylor or the times I ignored it when she was looking at him from a far. “Or maybe you are just jealous because he asked me first and you can’t take it so you decide to make some shit excuses to break the two of us! Well guess what Libby Hughes! It won’t happen!” I yelled at her and walk off.
I remember clearly how shock, angry and sad she looked at me before I cut all ties with her. She had called me for the pass week and left me messages but not a single one I replied to her. I told Taylor and he told me that he never hit on Libby. Josh had talked to me but he only mention Libby once, the day he stop over at mine after my fight with Libby but after seeing how upset I was when he mention Libby, he didn’t mention her again.
Soon enough, school started once again and everyone notice that Libby and I aren’t talking. They didn’t say anything to me but I knew they were talking about me behind our backs.
