The distant voices surrounded me. They echoed through my ears and for a few moment I thought I was dead. But if I was dead. Then it was noisy. I thought people said death was peaceful, not filled with voices of anger and despair. Not being able to grasp what the voices were saying, I tried my best to listen. But the words just slipped away. I tried to open my eyes, but it was like they were glued together.

After a few attempts, I managed to open my eyes, and I hissed at the bright light. "Oh look, she's waking up" A voice said. A figure was hovering above me, and I only could make out the darkness of it.

"Let her rest" A softer voice said. I tried to move my arms so I could sit up. But it failed. My arms dumped down like dead meat. I felt a cold hand on my shoulder and a light pressure. "Don't move" it was now that I realized it was a dark, calm voice.

I blinked away the blurriness clouding my vision and saw the pale face and fangs of Raphael. I breathed out in relief that he was there. Sure I didn't know him well, but he was at least a familiar face. "What happened?" I croaked out, rubbing my temples.

"you fell the edge of the roof of Hotel Dumort" a blond guy said, what was his name again? Jace?

"And then Raphael caught you before you ended up as a pulp on the ground" The black haired girl said, smirking. Raphael shook his head, as the two of them had had a serious or discussion as of why Raphael would do that.

"We've already talked about this, Shadow Hunter" Raphael growled, turning to the girl.

"Isabelle, this is really not the time" Jace (?) said, and turned to me again. His blue eyes scanned my face, and then he straightened up, before walking away. "Come Izzy, let us leave them alone"

Raphael turned his head towards them. Jace and Isabelle hurried out the door and Raphael turned his head to look at me again. I started to push my self up ina sitting position and Raphael grabbed my upper arm as I almost fell out of the bed I was lying in. He wrapped a ice cold arm across my back and helped me to a sitting position.

"Take it easy" He mumbled to me, and steadied me before he sat down on a chair by the side of the bed. Raphael leaned his elbows on his knees and gave me along, sad look. Why would he be sad? From what I had gathered,Raphael was a bad-ass guy, who seemed cruel.

"Thank you, Raphael" I mumbled, looking down on my folded hands.

"Don't thank me, your life means nothing" Raphael growled. And yes, back to the big bad-ass attitude.

"Raphael, drop your facade" I said, leaning my head to the wall behind me. I closed my eyes and swallowed. Raphael jumped up from the chair and came all the way up in my face. "You are not as viscous as you'd like to look"

"Shut up, mundane!"Raphael growled from the depths of his throat. I opened my eyes again and looked at the flashed fangs and smirked. Why the hell was I smirking at something that could rip me to pieces in a split second. If the stories of vampires, demons and what not, was real. "you'll stay here, and if I see you again at the hotel, there's nothing that can protect you" Raphael straightened up again, looking down at me."Not even I" Then he was gone. I slid down to a lying position again, and closed my eyes, choking a hulk that was threatening to come out as a big gasp for air.
