Chapter 4

The next morning Alex’s alarm clock goes off. He wakes up and silents it. He goes to his small closet and takes out a uniform. He gets dressed and then makes his way to the kitchen for some coffee. After he drinks his coffee, he puts his cup in the sink and then leaves for the police station.

I’m so damn exhausted. Its only 6AM and I’m already at work. As I make my way towards my desk the police chief stops me. I look at him and realize he looks frustrated. “Good morning chief.” I say and nod.

“Maybright have you gotten Lana Newton’s statement yet?”

“No sir, when I was there last time she hadn’t remembered anything. Her doctor called me last night though, and told me she got her memory back.” I say with a smile.

“Ok then, I am sending you to get her statement so then maybe we can get closer to closing this case.”

“Yes sir.” I say as he walks past me.

I can’t help but have a smile on my face. I know that Lana probably won’t want me there, but I can’t wait to see her again.

 I’m not sure why, but ever since I seen her for the first time, I always look forward to see her again. She makes me smile. Everything is so confusing. I don’t know why I have these feelings for her. I’ve only seen her a couple of times.

I sound crazy. I leave the station and make my way to the hospital.

I hear a knock on my door and then see a female doctor come into my room. She looks like she is in her mid-thirties. She has dark brown skin and long black hair. I think she might be Hispanic but I’m not too sure.

She makes her way to my bed and then says “Good morning, I am Dr. Veranda. Nice to meet you, I am here to examine your neck.”

“Good morning, sure just be careful.” I say grumpily

“I will be careful Miss Newton. You are going to feel me touching your neck now ok?”

“Ok.” My heart begins to race. “Please just get it over with Dr.” I say and then close my eyes.

The doctor touches my neck very lightly. She tells me to open my eyes. I do, and then she says “Please move your head to the left as far as you can.”

I do but wince at the pain.

Then she says “Good, now move your head to the right as far as you can.”

I do as I’m told and don’t feel as much pain this time. It still hurts, but it was a lot less than the left side.

“Good job Lana, now move your head up as far as you can and then down as far as you can.”

I obey and move my head slowly up as far as I could feeling pain shooting through my neck as I do. Tears start coming as I move my head down the best that I could. It feels like I’m being strangled all over again. Tears are now falling down my cheeks.

“I’m sorry Lana; I didn’t mean to make you cry. I can’t even begin to imagine what you are going through. I will make sure you get some pain medicine.”

“Thank you, I don’t think I could handle a male doing this exam. Please tell me what you think about my injury.”

“Lana, you have some major bruising on your left and front part of your neck which is why you were in so much pain when you moved your neck up and down. The good news is that nothing is damaged and all this bruising will heal up. My guess is around two to three months at the max.” Dr. Veranda says with a smile.
