There before me stands a man: short, lean, golden hair, hazel eyes. However he doesn't stay there for long before bustling himself into my apartment, "Hello. Nice to meet you. How's your day been? The weather's been nice today hasn't it? What've you done today? Have you had a good time? Where do you keep your tea pot?" Struck dumb by all the questions I merely point to the cupboard next to the sink. "Okay, now how do you like your tea? Milk? Sugar? Strong?" nodding dumbly in answer to the questions, I wonder to myself who this man is and what he is doing here. I know he's not here by invitation and I wonder who told him my address; no one knows that I am here. Why o why is the little man here? He looks over his shoulder to me at this point, "O gosh where are my manners, my name is Her-Henry, and I saw you earlier today and you looked mighty lonely so I thought to myself, I thought, let's go and give that girl a little company tonight, I think that she'll enjoy it. My apologies for being so upfront and just coming over but I felt the need to, I felt that you were lonely and might want some company you see. I saw you walking down the road to the beach and you looked ever so forlorn in that big, black coat of your, it's a nice coat don't get me wrong, but it just swallows you up and makes you almost invisible and I don't think anyone wants to be truly invisible. No matter what they think they want they merely want to be invisible enough that somebody notices them for being invisible, you know what I mean?" He was breathless by the time he had finished and I was speechless. I just stared at him, slowly letting all the information he had just given me infiltrate into my brain.
How does he know where I live? How does he know I'm here?
I must have had a confused look on my face because he seemed to read my mind. "If you'd listened to anything I said earlier you would know, I guess I'm gonna have to repeat myself, am I right?" He didn't even let me begin to answer, not that I would have done. "As I said, I saw you earlier in that big black coat of yours and decided that you looked lonely. I understand that it was probably weird that I followed you home and all but eh." He finished with a shrug. Then he sits there and drinks his tea slowly, watching me as I analyse him. The longer then silence stretches for the more expectant his face becomes. Once again I must have looked confused because he asked "Are you okay?" In answer I just nodded to him. A perplexed look passed over his feature when I didn't answer him in words, then it cleared slightly, "Can you talk?" I nod. "Do you talk?" I shake my head. Under his breath I hear him mutter, although I don't think I was meant to. "Well this is going to be harder than expected." I huff in annoyance, I'm mute not deaf, I think to myself. He looks at me sheepishly, realising that I heard what he said. "My apologies. However do you have any questions for me?" I think to myself then nod. "Well just how are you going to answer them then?" He questions me and I just shrug back at him and leave him to think of a solution. He must have come up with an answer because he rushed off deeper into my apartment and just minutes later returns with a pencil and paper. "There, write them down."
I take then objects carefully, sit at the table and then think what I would like to ask. Then I begin to write:
1. I think you lied about just seeing me and following me, so how do you know of me?
He reddens and then looks to be arguing with himself. "Okay. I did see you today but that was because I was at the beach, you stepped in the sea for the first time in 4 years today, am I right?" I nodded. "Okay now this is where you are either gonna freak out, not believe me or think I'm crazy. So just hear me out. I am good friend with a man, this man is the king-I might as well not lie to you- well he is the god of the sea. Don't laugh. Now when you go in the sea you feel, calmed, at peace, at home right?" One again I just nodded. "Well you are very lucky and you have been born with a connection with the sea, this means that the fates have decided that your destiny is intertwined with my friend's. Now as I was saying my friend is the god of the sea and can sense the moment you come into contact with sea water. It has been 4 years since you have and he was beginning to become worried and today you finally went in. When you did he sent me to go and find you. That is why I am here. I am here to offer you to come with me to see my friend, Poseidon. Oh any by the way my name isn't Henry it's Hermes. "
