"Left *glock* left *glock*...." I shuffled my feet on the slippery dewy wet morning grass. I glanced ahead at the stop sign beyond the fence. I felt the sweat trickling down my forehead. It was 8:00 a.m. The heat was already scorching down on us. A deep but loud yell made its way to the back of the basic block, obviously a males. "Band *clap* *clap* *clap* ATTENTION!!!!!!" I stood at attention on the Stanford practice field. My favorite time of the year was here. Band camp! Just kidding, I enjoyed marching band season but hated band camp week. who doesn't?! Well anyways, my name is Kalani Reese and i am about to start my freshman year at Stanford University. Was I excited?! Yes! Was I terrified!? That's a double yes. They say college years are the best years of your life and I'm hoping they're correct. I am a very social person so I'd like to believe that. I'm from Salt Lake City. I've got two sisters Alliya and Kalena. My dad, Michael Reese, is a famous layer in the city. "Relax" Amanda Vega our 2016 Stanford Drum Major said. "Welcome freshman! To the Leland Junior Stanford Marching Band!" Amanda exclaimed. " Over the course of the next 3 to 4 months you will grow closer to the people around you. You will grow so much with them you will find out things and know things you probably don't want to Know. Both Good and bad. This will become your second family. You will eat, sleep, and grow with them. Try to get a long with your brothers and sisters because I promise that it will be a long season if you don't. We have a lot to get done this week. Let's have a good week!" Amanda turned and whispered to the boy next to her and than turned and walked away. The boy, had blond hair and a bandana. He was built and in a good way. Other girls in my section were talking about him this morning. I don't see what was so cute about him. he was just average to me "Hi, my names Eric Ervings, I am the assistant drum major. Can I get sections in their own blocks please" he spoke into the bull horn

A little after 4 o'clock, I headed back to my dorm. I had successfully completed my first day in band camp. I turned the corner in the hallway to dorm 217. I walked in on my roommate on the phone. "Okay Christian, what time do you want me to meet you out front... Yeah she's right here...." I sat my bag down on my desk. I need a shower and some Aleve. I grabbed some clothing out of my suit case. I hadn't gotten around to unpacking yet, I turned as she clicked the end call button on her phone. "Hey Ashlee!" I said with a smile. "Hey Kalani, Christian wants to take me out to a party. He asked if you wanted to come. Do you wanna come?" I thought hard for a second. I was extremely tired but I figured I could start meeting people and making friends. Why not right? "Um sure what time do I need to be ready?" She looked down at her wrist watch, contemplating what to say next. "6:30 okay?" She asked concerned about my state of being. I guess I must of looked dirty and sweaty from marching. Ashlee marches too. She's on drum line and plays the snare. She dates one of the famous Stanford football players, Christian Maccaffrey. Percussion got out of band camp early today since it's only the first day and it was basically just fundamentals of marching.

I slipped on a long sleeve lace crop top over a pink bralet with the same pink tinted pink bohemian shorts with blue.

My long ombré hair is straightened. I looked down at my stomach, glancing at my piercing. Was I showing too much? I don't want to bare all to everyone. Oh well, I like this outfit and I'm coving all of my goodies. I finished my makeup and sprayed some perfume on me. I pressed the home button on my phone. My screen read "6:15". Fifteen minutes to spare. I walked out of the bathroom and walked over to the door, I stood still for a second, looking down at the numerous amount of shoes I have. I can't help it, I love shoes!!!! I picked out one of my favorites, a pair of blue heels with a gold chain around the ankle. I slipped them on, being careful not loose balance and fall on my face. Ashlee walked back in, she took one look at me and her jaw dropped. "Damn, if I was a guy or I wasn't straight...." We both laughed at the same time. "You ready?!" Ashlee asked. "Yeah, let's go" I stated, feeling excited. We walked down stairs to the entrance and out the door. We passed Oscar, who, by the way was known as the plug of the dormitory. If you know what I mean lol. "Hey Oscar don't wait up for us, we'll be back later" ashlee looked oscars way. "Alright Ashlee, I got you fam". We walked outside to the front waiting on Christian to pull up. "Hey I hope you don't mind but Christian is bringing his friend Brandon around, I invited you because I knew you wanted to make friends and maybe you two will hit it off" I nodded. Suddenly a car pulled up and Christian stepped out. A light skinned boy about 6 feet stepped out. He was really cute. He was wearing some timbs and some ripped up jeans with a t-shirt.

He looked at me and flashed a million dollar smile

He looked at me and flashed a million dollar smile. He had perfect teeth and honestly, just him smiling at me, made me weak in the knees. He walked over to me and started to speak. His voice kinda faded. It was like I was in my own world. I just stared at his smile. He was beautiful and not in a weird way but a deep way. "Kalani!" Ashlee snapped me out of the trance I was in. "Huh! Oh I'm so sorry" he laughed at me. Even his laugh made me melt. "It's okay, penny for your thoughts?" He asked "oh just distracted I guess" I stated looking down obviously feeling embarrassed. He was quiet for a second. "Um you guys, are we gonna go or?..." Christian asked. I looked up, gazing into Brandon's eyes for a small moment. He never took his eyes off of mine. Holding my gaze. "Uhh yeah, let's go" he said then turned and walked to the car. He waited at the car door. I walked towards it and he opened it for me. "Thank you!" I said to Brandon. He hopped into the car, closing the car door behind him.
